why have I never heard of this show? How many exhibitors do you guys typically have?

    Milosh,

The show started a long time ago focused mainly on military figures in the 1/32 or 54mm range. Over the years the scales multiplied, but the focus of the club and the show remained mostly historical military figures. However, in the last 5 or so years we have seen more members and more entries in many different scales - both larger and smaller - and in many different genres. A number of our regular members focus almost exclusively on the smaller scales seen on CoolMini while others (myself included) have run screaming with fear from such a small canvas and started to work almost exclusively in 1/12 scale and above.

I am trying to get the exact attendance and entry numbers from last year but it was an excellent turn out both on the attendee and exhibitor sides.

I'll have to look into it. Do you guys use the open system of voting like most of the US figure shows have adopted or do you use the IPMS way of 1st 2nd and 3rd per category? I have never been to D.C but this may just be the lure I need. I would post the info on planetfigure.com also.

    Milosh,

We use a system similar to most other figure shows and do not use the IPMS method. The full rules are posted on our website. I put the info on PF, Timelines, The Clubhouse, FineScale Modeler, HM Forum and asked Buc to post it on his page as well. If there are others that might help spread the word please let me know.

Just saw this thread so I thought I'd add my two cents. As Bob said the DC show started out focused on historical figures but has been making a big push to attract fantasy, sci-fi, and war game figure painters as well. At last years show I would say maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of the entries fell into that category. I don't have a count or anything, that's just my impression from attending. Judging is done on the open system. For anyone not familiar, that means awards (certificates of merit, then bronze, silver, and gold medals) are given based each figure's merit. Every figure that is of gold medal quality is awarded a gold. No figure is awarded a medal at the expense of another. Our categories are historical painters, historical open, fantasy/sci-fi painters, fantasy/sci-fi open, and ordinance. Again, for those not familiar, painters division is primarily for kit figures where you are judged only on the quality of the painting. Open is for scratch built and converted figures where you are judged on the entire piece. We have separate best of show awards for historical, fantasy, and ordinance.

We have also added a wargame award "For the best exhibit of 'game playable' wargame figures, displayed as a collection of single figures, units or a balanced army or fleet," so bring an entire army if you want!

I know a number of us in the club would love to see more fantasy/sci-fi/war game figures entered into the competition. So I encourage anyone here at CMON who is near DC or feels like visiting to come check out the show. For more information click the show link on http://www.ncmss.org/ There is a lot of information in the links on the right (conveniently label 'Show Information')

Just wanted to send out a reminder that the DC show will be this Saturday. Fantasy, historical, sci-fi, and war gaming figures are all welcome. Enter your minis for competition or just look around and shop. Hope to see some of you there!
