The painted version looks more detailed (horns, clothes), is it done only by paint or did you add details to the sculpt before painting it?

Dexter0015, the details on the horns and textures on the leather parts of the clothing are painted on. There's some uneven shapes sculpted into the leather, but all of the fine detail is paint. I did the horns in the same way I did my last tiefling. I did a series of dark lines around them, then adding some highlights and a bit of shading to create a 3D effect.

I've been away for a while. Work and family and pandemics and all have kept me busy. Thankfully I've still be able to work on miniatures from time to time, even if I haven't gotten around to updating this thread!
I've got a number of things to catch up on, but let's start with what I've done most recently. I posted some pictures of this 70mm female orc before but I just got back to her the other week. I had a scene in mind for her but didn't quite feel confident enough to try constructing it. However, in my downtime I've been practicing my sculpting skills on a few other projects so I thought I'd give the base for the orc a try. I'm pretty happy with the results. I worked with Super Sculpey and baked it over the weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to put some paint on it soon. Haven't gotten around to painting anything I've sculpted yet, so I'm very curious to see how this will look once there's some color on it.
Great stuff. You’ve got just enough to tell the story, and nothing wasted. Something tells me it will look pretty decent when you get around to painting it.

You know my thoughts already Dave. Your a magic man. Your route that painting has lead you into the forced contrast of shadow/ highlights proved to be another perfect choice to elevate your painting skills once again. Your sculptwork continues to impress. Your a genius mate.

I'm trying to get back to painting on a more regular basis. With Halloween approaching, Frank von Stein (75mm) from Terrible Kids Stuff seemed like an ideal subject. I've had a lot of fun working on his sickly skin. The skin tone was based in AK's Grey Green. I added a 50/50 mix of AK's Basalt Grey and Reaper's Walnut Brown to that for the shadows (with Black added to anywhere which needed to be even darker). Highlights were done by adding AK's Green Grey to their Grey Green (yeah, not the most helpful names). And final highlights were done with Reaper's Linen White. After that I went in with glazes of red around the sutures, implants, and in the cheeks, glazes of purple along the veins, and glazes of blue in some select shadows.

The skin is looking its usual fantastic self, like in all your other work! Can't wait to see your latest progress.
I finished up two projects recently, so here's a look at how they turned out. First is the Frank Von Stein I recently shared. I stuck to a pretty desaturated palette on this one to (hopefully) imply the feel of an old style monster movie.
I really enjoying working with the atypical skin colors, so here's a closer look. The skin was primarily painted in desaturated green and then glazes of red, blue, and purple were used to add color variation and create more visual interest.
In addition to Frankie, I also wrapped up this orc from Big Child Creatives. I'd started him a couple years back and hit a bit of a road block. But I'm glad I returned to the piece and finally completed him.
Love the muted colors and glad your kid is giving you time to still paint.
