    The hands need work.

Astounding painting, Bailey. I think you’ve got this whole light placement pretty well down. Is this guy going into a huge pirate orc diorama at some point? Because I seem to recall some WIP pieces you’ve yet to unveil.

None better -my hats off to you again davey. I’m gonna miss you at NOVA . Hasn’t been the same winning an award without you nextto me winning yours. Just takes a bit (by a bit I’m mean greatly sucks ). But I’ll be there again extremely excited no matter how I do cause davey truth is -all I’ve ever wanted to do was be on center stage 1nce -you with your tutalidge have done that for me . Making the type of guy you are from family man to close friend and then there’s unsurpassed artists . All I can say is thank you and I always smile when I come across another one of your texts all diff times of day- they help me and motivate me and let’s face it if I’m one of the close few that gets to see constant photos of SBS I couldn’t be happier being on that end. Thank you and thanks for all your amazing and incredible contributions you make to this hobby and all our lives you change through your works!!!!!

Thanks! I'm planning to pair him with another figure from the Black Sailors line, but it won't be a huge diorama. You're right, there is another set of pirate figures I was painting. I still have plans to finish that, though it's not something I plan to work on at the moment. This will be a separate piece... though perhaps I'll include some little details in the bases to link them together as if they're multiple scenes in the same story.

Thanks, BAM! It's always fun getting to hang out together at show, check out the other entries and just chat about painting. Sorry I'm missing NOVA, but hopefully I'll make it out next year!

Don't you mean the pants could do with a touch of paint?

Really nice start to this figure. I love seeing all the great work you do and am amazed with the talent you have for doing this.

The deep shadows on the skin and mouth really make the mini ‘pop’

Here's a new project, a 75mm orc from GT Studio. I actually started her a year and a half ago, but kept second guessing myself. I ended up painting some parts over and over and the piece started to get overworked, especially on the face. It just wasn't going in the right direction, so I abandoned it. However, since I still liked the sculpt, I recently decided to strip the piece and give it another try. This time I was more decisive on my color mixes and just went with my gut. There's still a long ways to go, but I'm much happier with how she's coming along this time.

And here's a full resolution close up. I like seeing other artists close up images as they help me really see what is going on with the blending and brush strokes, as well as what is really paint vs what is just from light. So I try to share some of my own from time to time too. One of the things I also find informative is to see what areas use smooth transitions and where you just jump from one color to the next. Not everything must be gradual, sometimes sharp transitions are needed. It's all about the overall effect.

David I’m so overjoyed when I get these incredible picture and project updates texted to me early. I feel like I’m part of a David “super artist! Miniature painting club-where only a select few get that inclusion. So I’m stopping here to do my pleasure to openly say I thought the originals couldn’t be outdone- once again you showed me that your minds eye is capable of envisioning things that me a peasant can only see in a fantasy in a dream!!!!

Thanks, everyone! I've done a good deal more on the skin and then started to add in a few other bits (got to take a break from painting blue all the time!).

I wanted to work in some ambient light/color on this piece. The base I have planned will be primarily red, so I'm trying to show that color being picked up in the skin and clothing. For the moment it's mostly noticeable from behind. But, as I do more of the figure, it will show up in the front too.

Amazing. The red reflection on the back is looking realy good. Looking forward to see the final result with the base.

I'm bouncing back and forth a bit between projects depending on what inspires me the most. The other day I started painting again on another tiefling I've made. This piece began a while ago, though I think this is the first time I'm sharing it here. Like the last tiefling I painted, this is a converted piece based on a character from Critical Role. This time I started with the Morlock Girl from Luxumbra. I reposed the arms and swapped the head with a dark elf from RN Estudio. I then sculpted on all the clothing, tail, and horns. When it comes to sculpting and conversions I'm still learning, but I'm trying to do more complex pieces each time.

Here's a look at the current painting next to the bare conversion

She's a fun character, so I'm trying to convey that with my painting too. She's got a giant lollipop, which I want to resculpt (it's a bit too uneven looking for my taste, I think I can do better). But, aside from that, I'm fairly happy with how she's coming along. I just did a bit more texturing work on one of the boots and am about to do the other. There will also be a design along the bottom of the cream colored cloth. You can see a bit of the early work, though there will be a lot more to it.
