    Default Kingdom Death: Survivors

To fill the time waiting for Kingdom Death: Monster I hope to sculpt some survivor miniatures to game with. I'm hoping that (as I don't currently have any "gaming buddies") that this will encourage my gf, her sister and her bf to join the fun. If personalised survivors don't seal the deal then I don't know what will!

I've made some quick biro sketches for fun. Introducing:

    Survivor Paul:

    Survivor Jaxx:

    Survivor Lou:

    Survivor Peter:

I already have some armatures built that could be of use. Having said that don't expect progress to soon, after all I have about 11 months to complete this project

A very cool idea to try and entice your friends into gaming. Should be fun and build up a nice bit of anticipation.

I used to have similar problems finding people to game with and managed to get my brother and a few other people into Warhammer Quest through a custom Christmas scenario. They had to progress through a big dungeon and find the evil sorcerer lord Rue Dolph. He was a psychotic reindeer who I converted from a plastic GW horse.

I think her sisters bf is pretty keen (luckily, as he can talk her into it who in turn can talk my gf into it!). I'll just have to resist the temptation to offend by sculpting my gf as an OTT pinup

Cheers! I did have the thought of creating a Pinup Poots, complete with y-fronts. I'm not even joking.

The more I sculpt the more I realise the need to work on my understanding of (and ability to sculpt) anatomy. With that in mind I have started work on a 1/45 scale male practice sculpt. His outstretched right arm will be holding a lantern. I am working from a pose in one of the Art Models book. The original model is wielding a sword.

Well, you've turned up at the right time!

Update on my 38mm male and the armature prepared for a female at the same scale (1/45).

Hopefully somebody out there can help me...

I currently only own one KD mini': the Butcher (no humans) but know that the KD scale is 35mm. Is that 35mm to the eyes or 35mm to the top of the head (i.e. 32mm to the eyes)?! I'd like to get started with some armatures but it'd kind of suck if these sculpts are way out with the box minis.

Got word from a man in the know that KD humans are 35-36mm to the eyes.

Made a start on Survivor: Peter.

The scale is 35mm to the eyes. The pose is a mirror image of the 1/45 scale male sculpt seen above. His left arm will be holding a shield, possibly made from stone faces, and he will be heavily armoured. To keep with the likeness of his namesake, this survivor will be wearing glasses and Batman trainers!

The arms will be posed at a later stage.

I am very much enjoying the GS/MS mix :-)

Further progress on the Survivor: Peter sculpt.

On this mini' I'm trying out the method utilised by JAG and Thomas David (amongst others) of working from the inside out. This morning I roughed out the form of the body. I wasn't too worried about perfect smoothness as all surfaces will be covered anyway when I "dress" the torso. If anything a rough surface should help the subsequent layers of putty to adhere.

This afternoon I attempted armour on the lower legs, using a 50:50 mix of GS & Procreate. Overall I'm happy enough with the end result. I had to go out but could have done with leaving it a further hour and refining even more once firmer.

The next step will probably include the thighs and chest. His left arm will be holding a shield, possibly constructed from stone faces.

    Work on the upper legs:

Practicing some dreaded drapery, based loosely upon the spider silk armour (baginess semi-intended). Most of it should be covered with armour plates and accessories anyway. The knee pads will be sculpted once set.

As with the majority of my sculpts this one is a bit chunky. Something to keep working on I think...

Forearm armour, lantern base, knee caps and face shaping from 50/50 GS/MS. More refing to do over the coming hour. Think I pay prefer the Procreate/GS mix over MS/GS for armour...
