    Default Cheating

Found this on another forum, its from GD UK 2010. Really makes me angry & sad.
I echo the last sentence - YOU WILL BE FOUND OUT SO DON'T CHEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'Just noticed this mini won a Golden Demon in the UK youngbloods catagory: http://demonwinner.free.fr/uk/2010/golden_demon_winner.php?categorie=12....'

This is a miniature I painted a couple years back and sold on ebay
    http://www.coolminiornot.com/182917"

This is a c&p from an email that the original artist recieved from GW hq.

    "Hi,

David Heathfield in the 'Eavy Metal team forwarded me your contact details so that I could let you know what we're doing about your Tau Ethereal that someone else entered into – and won Gold with – the Young Bloods category at this year's UK Golden Demon competition. We will shortly be removing the images of the model and the name of the winner from the 2010 UK Golden Demon winners page of the Games Workshop website, as it's now apparent that it wasn't Sean Graham who painted it, it was you.

I understand from the rules to the competition that anyone knowingly entering someone else's work as their own is immediately disqualified and forbidden from entering future Golden Demon painting competitions, so if Sean Graham ever had a bright future ahead of him as a miniatures painter we won't hear about it at the Golden Demons.

Thank you for letting us know about your Ethereal; I hope you don't see any more of your models entered into Golden Demon under other people's names in the future!"

Just a friendly reminder for those that choose to tarnish our hobby with this disgusting behaviour. The world is smaller than you think, and you WILL be found out.
"we reach for the stars, forever looking to the heavens, our minds filled with wonder and the glory of the cosmic all; stretching the boundries of human knowledge and securing the solar system for the Human Species out there beyond the final frontier so one day our decendants will be as gods!
You hold our hands so we don't blunder into things........and do the photo shop.
    "

Sad, and frankly, it is a bit embarassing by this young kid. But yes, the world is smaller than you think, and the world of miniatures even more so!

Sadly Not the first time it's happened.
Was an incident back around 04/05 over in Canada with the same Ebay purchase entry malarky.
Trouble was IIRC the painter was actually at GD and spotted the fakery after the awards had been made.

    Some people are just stupid.

They don't care if they get caught, they just want the win and the prizes. Getting caught later means nothing.

Gw needs to put a disclaimer out. The trophy is not made out of real gold, so it isnt worth cheating to get it.
In fact even the last Uk slayer sword looked lame (the sword not the model) no wonder the winner sold it.

We know this will be taken seriously when they start asking painters for a drug test and a urine specimen.

I recall a few occasions. The Youngbloods seem to be overrepresented.

Have they changed manufacturer? It used to be a very nice sword. One I'd like to have.

It´s really depressing to see that the Youngbloods Category seems to be especially popular with people who have a complete wrong understanding of competition and morale... We had some problems judging the Youngbloods on the German GD 2012 with some dubious Entries, but the nature of the Competition doesn´t allow for check ups and relies on the Word of the Competitiors...

However, I think this and the lame Sword / Trophies might not be of too much importance as the Future of the GD itself seems less certain (no date for the French GD, GD Italy, Spain and Germany likely to move to less spectacular / expensive venues, other GD´s eventually not being held at all...)... It doesn´t look great at all at the moment for the Games Day / Goldem Demon...

see now i blame the competition winners if more of them sold the trophies they consider crappy from games workshop on ebay they would be of a lower value to the "gotta catch 'em all" generation of miniature collectors meaning they won't sully the competition in their immoral quest to get every crappy piece of merchandise games workshop puts out after all ebay does regularly get re-casts of the rogue demon trophy (the juan diaz sulpt of the demon with the spear sized paint brush) in it's listings it's not like anyone buying it is doing it for the accolade same as the slayer sword that went on sale on there it's collectors the same happens with tournament prizes and in store event incentives i can't say i have any desire to build and play competitive army in a tournament that costs more than a games day ticket does to enter but i do like the campaign medal http://www.collecting-citadel-miniat...aign_Award.jpg and i'm likely to buy one if i ever see it on ebay not because of the accolade but just because it is a cool piece to display with my army same goes for the iron halo badge they did a few years ago for taking part in some in store activities the thought of having to deal with games workshop till slaves and the disgusting unwashed marine worshipers that this sort of activity is aimed at brings me out in hives just thinking about it but i'll happily support those kids in financing their hobby by buying it off of them so why not sell your shitty trophies in a bid to police the competition of those underhanded collectors out there

i'm sure there are some that would want to keep hold of them because of the accolade and so you should you won it after all it is just a suggestion that could save the competitive spirit

Personally I feel sorry for the kid that missed out on getting the gold demon he deserved and the kid that missed out on getting a broze demon (who instead got nothing at all).

I imagine it is pretty hard for the judges though as, a lot of the time, it would be difficult to prove that someone didn't paint what they are claiming as their own.

but isnt this just speculations Matt? it's still a long time til summer. Gw just announced the painting contest "the Fang" which is a yearly painting competition for non gd countries and which carry exactly the same rulez as gd. the Fang seems more "exclusive" than ever this year (although of course its nothing compared to Games day)

Well, otherwise we all have to go to US in the future lol...

Well in years past I've heard unsubstanciated rumours that Games Day(s) don't make a profit in the UK.
But since Gamesday is also used as a major investor "Flagship Event" I'm not so sure that GW would dump it quite so readily.
In the past I've seen GW senior management escorting 'Suits' around the show and while the suits were obviously unimpressed with the geeks, they were paying attention to the money trade and headcount.
And while Golden Deamon(s) are a huge part of the painting community, in real terms of GW they are a cost incurring minor part of the business.

This says it all. Piss on GW. It's a shame - I like their fluff, and the guys I've met at GD have been awesome. But I'm in the process of divesting myself of my GW stuff, and I don't see myself attending any more Golden Demons. It's all about Crystal Brush now.

Gamesday UK definately used to make losses, I don't know the situation now as I'm out of the loop. GW got so concerned about this that they instructed stores not to sell vouchers for customers to use at Gamesday as it had to try and pay for itself. So going from it making a loss and GW not really caring there was a shift to it must pay for itself. If it fails to do so I can see it getting cut in the next few years. Tbh they would be better served using events like salute and adepticon in a more proactive way to unlicensed themselves amid to try and undo a lot of the negative perception the gaming community has of them. A totalitarian, secretive event force feeding the public corporate non-speak doesn't do anyone any favors.

That and the fact Golden Demon is no longer a fairly judged competion has definately diminished its worth.

Well there have been allegations about GD UK judging in the past being pre-influenced, or in one or two cases "preselected" by staff seeing vistors working at the Gaming centre, so a statement like this doesn't brook any surprizes to me.
I've suspected that for the last few years the number of finalists per category has been 'capped' as well.

The one in Canada wasn't bought on ebay, but directly from the artist.
