Default Combat Video: Nasier vs Shael Han

    Questions on the combat Video
    1) Why did Derek not take any actions on turn one (something like sprint) but instead tried using movement Shenanigans? He could have done both

    2) Why was there no moral loss on turn 1

    3) When the Howl Moved on Turn 2, and used Knockback on the child, killing the Legionaire, why didn't she then get her inspired Melee attack on the Child?

    4) Why does Shield Wall show an attack Die, giving the impression that it does damage to the target, and then the write-up below states that a 1 Die attack happens to anyone hit by the knocked back model? The Dragon Legion Keeper does not show any attack dice on his Chi Blast. This makes these abilities a little confusing and open to different interpretations

    5) When the 2 Dragon Legionnaires moved forward and killed the Ashman, they used the Keepers inspire, but you guys called is a Chi Blast - something that causes knock back, and also something they did not have and could not have done. So while the mechanics were correct, the name of the attack is wrong

    6) Could you explain how the Chi Blast works? What does Knockback(2) mean? Does is cause a 2 Die attack on a model that is struck by the target of the chi attack? How far is a model knocked back by the Chi Blast?

    7) When the Great Horn uses its Immolate attack, you state the the range is 5", but the card shows a 6" range

    8) On the turn that each player started with 2 Moral, the Nasier first move was to activate the Howl and 3 Pelegarth. One Pelegarth moved 6". Why didn't she have to pay to disengage? She had to be engaged with the child, because she was pulled into base with the Child earlier in the game. She wouldn't have been able to engage and shield bash the keeper.

    9) If the move had been legal, why didn't the Pelegarth use the Inspired attack against the keeper?

Good vid and entertaining, didn't think I'd be able to sit and watch a game being played for nearly an hour. My only (constructive) criticism is there should have been a scenario or objective as this game just showed one big scrum. One thing that made me chuckles is when right at the beginning, Derek showed us how to move measuring front to front of the base and then proceeded to move every model half a base further for the rest of the game, get rid of that flexible tape

One more quick question, What size are the cards that you are using showing each model. They looked pretty big on the table.

Personal choice and play style. I've been playing this game for close to three years now, so there are certain 'habits' I've formed with the different forces. I play fairly reactionary with the Shael Han.

    2) Why was there no moral loss on turn 1

This was explained by Michael on the KS update - copied here for quick ref:

Hey guys, Mr. Black here! And it was pointed out to me that we might have forgotten about the first turn morale loss. We should have mentioned this when we began along with the rest of our expository about the rules that we have indeed changed the rules on first turn morale loss- specifically we removed it.
Reason for this was because in lower point games we felt it rushed things a bit to prematurely. The first turns of the game are all going to be about set-up and creating the battleline to your advantage, and when your starting morale is hovering around 4-6 it becomes a detriment to waste any time on anything but winning,.. While there is a benefit to that, it just rushed lower engagements too much. The solution was, as you see in the video, to begin morale degradation starting Round 2 of the game. This also felt better narrative/fluff wise, as armies are going to only begin losing steam once the engagement gets started, not on the march to war.

    3) When the Howl Moved on Turn 2, and used Knockback on the child, killing the Legionaire, why didn't she then get her inspired Melee attack on the Child?

In turn 2 she uses a Sprint action to engage the Child. On turn 3 when she attacked, she was already engaged and therefore did not trigger the Inspired.

As stated in the other thread, this has been added to the list of changes.

    5) When the 2 Dragon Legionnaires moved forward and killed the Ashman, they used the Keepers inspire, but you guys called is a Chi Blast - something that causes knock back, and also something they did not have and could not have done. So while the mechanics were correct, the name of the attack is wrong

I did indeed call it a Chi Blast as this is what the Inspire was named in an earlier iteration, at one time we had names for all the Inspires and Training's however to save space on the cards we removed them. In this case we changed the name of one of the Keepers abilities to Chi Blast.

    6) Could you explain how the Chi Blast works? What does Knockback(2) mean? Does is cause a 2 Die attack on a model that is struck by the target of the chi attack? How far is a model knocked back by the Chi Blast?

Mr. Black answered this in the Shael Han thread, copied here for quick ref:

Knockback(x): Each model targeted by this attack is forced (x)" away. If the enemy model's movement is stopped by another model the model stopping it suffers a melee attack with [1][Rate]. [Reaction](x) abilities may not be triggered by this attack. This ability is resolved after attack dice are rolled but before damage is dealt.

    7) When the Great Horn uses its Immolate attack, you state the the range is 5", but the card shows a 6" range

Immolate does have a 5" range - added to the list!

Sadly I am going to blame the goofy tape measure I was using. I'm sure you all have noticed I kept getting it caught on models and more than likely moved the Bloodmask out of base to base inadvertently in an earlier activation.

    9) If the move had been legal, why didn't the Pelegarth use the Inspired attack against the keeper?

I used a Jedi Mind Trick on Michael.
The cards we are using are just print outs of the stats side by side.

    Thank you!

We have plans on featuring all the forces but I can't promise you won't see Nasier again, I'll just make sure they're not in the next video or two. :P

This was a great video! Even just featuring the combat system and basic rules sans scenario, it is really helping me spread the word about the game system itself. I liked the short "confessional" style moments too.

I'll be honest though the smack talk was little over the top.

Loved it, even if it kinda got a little heated at one point. Even so great all round, really liking this game so far and the models are awesome. Would love to see Goritsci or Hadross feature in a future one.

Solid video fellas. I liked the interview moments where you explained the state of the game and what you were hoping for. In future videos I hope to see more of this. Thanks for taking the time to explain the abilities each time they were used, it made it easier to follow everything that was happening.

I didn't mind seeing Nasier again since they were using a different rules set from what we've seen before. As a Goritsi player I do have my biases however.

My one criticism would be that you didn't tell us what the commanders were at the beginning. I'm looking forward to seeing another.

Any leader has the Ability to Group activate any Group of models as long as all of the models in that group have the same trait. So the Howl can activate a group of Ashmen, but the Howl could not activate herself and the group of Ashmen, since she does not share the Ashmen trait

Loved the video. Love, love, love the, "No morale loss on turn 1" change! Love the proof that Shael Han is not a weak faction! (Our group thought I would only play Goritsi after a few tries as Shael Han. Now they're afraid I'm running the two killer OP factions, lol).
