Thread: Starting to Get a Little Annoyed

Default Starting to Get a Little Annoyed

It's been over a year now since Guilds of Cadwallon was funded. With my pledge I was to get a copy of the rules for the next iteration of Confrontation.

So where are these rules? Why am I seeing game after game crop up on Kickstarter from CMoN, yet nothing on Confrontation.

There's a saying that's thrown around in my family, other places as well I'm sure:

Sh*t or get off the pot.

    I feel your frustration

The only reason I funded Guilds was to get the Confrontation PDF. Sent an letter to CMoN, who said that the PDF is still coming, they just have no idea when that will happen though

One of these days after Phoenix edition is in our hands and the mini's get re-published they'll share the story of all the trouble it was to bring this game back to us. It will be a harrowing tale of political intrigue, legal courtroom drama, action-adventure, romance, frustration, and ultimately triumph!

Personally, i'm hoping for an August kickstarter that will overlap with GenCon.

Wouldn't we have heard something about it by now though, if Gencon 2014 was a target for anything?

I am still really looking forward to this, but I can't help but feel that Wrath of Kings has stolen some of Confrontation's thunder at CMON.

Though maybe not, as WoK is a 'large scale' game, and Confrontation is a 'skirmish' scale - or at least, it was?

Too many question marks, I know.

    In every sense...

I seriously doubt that we will see anything on Confrontation this year, hoping to see something by GenCon 2015. During play test there was quite a bit of "confrontation" between the 3.5 player base and where CMoN was taking Phoenix, which eventually lead to a breakdown of any progress, and CMoN deciding to pull everything back. To be honest, not sure that Phoenix will ever see the light of day.

I also wonder if the rules will ever be released. The money for any tabletop game is the selling of the models, the rules are a one off purchase and usually don't have any major changes for 3 -4 years, so no need to buy another set. The other problem is that there are still a lot of gamer's out there who have armies, so will not need to invest big time in new models, they are ready to go. This means that there is no real incentive for CMON to spend time & money on producing a rule book.

This is a real shame as I never got to really play the game before it died. I also sold off all my wargame armies a few years ago, the only ones I kept were my Wolfen & Kelts, because I love the background of Confrontation & Cadwallon.

I believe that Cyanide should set up an approved Confrontation / Ragnorok / Cadwallon oversight group and have them take control of the rules. This means the fans get control (via Kickstarter) and we have a realistic chance of relaunching a world that is loved by many. This then leaves CMON to produce the models that are missing.

At this point what is the downside of producing the range of what they own in resin in a larger scale? Even if there isn't a new ruleset to go with it, the ebay market suggests there is money to be made in this.

Any kind of 'official' update on this would certainly be appreciated...

I agree the secondary market continues to support a market demand for Confrontation miniatures. Would be nice to see someone do this right.

Yeah I missed out on this game because i didn't get into mini wargaming until after rakham folded. As to the old post about people who have miniatures already, that is called established player base. That is a plus, because it will give new players (which is where the profit for miniatures games comes from) someone to play with and more incentive to play.

As someone who got into way to many minatures games thanks to kickstarter, the worst part is getting into a game that nobody plays. So people having models to play with as soon as the new rules comes out is a good thing for both the game and CMoN

Look up the French and Italian Confrontation forums. They are quite active. Last I checked, the Italians came up with their own modifications to the ruleset.

I'm personally losing my Mojo on this. Coming up on a year anniversary of this post. Also, as I posted in a new thread, the biggest online community was Dragon Painting forum. It was made up of a lot of the old stalwarts from back in the days of the Confrontation web boards on Rackham's site plus some new fellows. The SiteAdms are moving on and fair enough... but seems so sad. Not much else left of Confrontation... one of the big old card backup websites aren't even working properly with modern web browsers anymore.

I've got almost a complete collection of all the minis. I guess I'm feeling down now. I wonder if I should move on...

    Hi,

If you speak a little french, you could manage your collection on this website : http://www.librevent.com/confrontation/
The French forum is also active : http://confrontation.vraiforum.com/index.php

But I'm also sad for the disappearance of Dragon Paiting Forum.

Check out the Facebook page called the Confrontation Painting Challenge - some of the Dragonpainting guys wound up there. Others are also on Reaper's forums.
