Rivet Wars 1.0 - Ted's Original Hand-Made Figures

I decided to put together the history and photos of Ted's original hand-made figures. The ones he created well before any idea of a board game ever came about. I've made threads before about the origins of Rivet Wars, but I wanted to make one *just* on the original figures.

"This all got started when I began watching the toybreak podcasts, then I entered a sketch in the OMFG2 contest thread. I got some great encouragement especially from "spastik4plastik" and "Customizer". So I decided to take my one sketch and build a world around it. Stuff that I dig like tanks, soldiers, WWI steampunk type stuff, etc. I have no idea why I'm doing this except to try and make some cool stuff. And I have no idea if anyone else will be interested or care, but I feel like I have to do this regardless. Well here goes..."

Ted started it all with the Vertical Tank, originally called Sherman, and were about 25% larger than the figures used in the board game.

From there he used tints to make alternate colors, such as dark brown.

Ted priced his first batch of Vertical Tanks at $15 each (plus $3 shipping), and he included a stat card with each one. For these earliest figures, he drew a sketch on the backside of the cards.

The second figure made was the allied grunt. Ted made this in two sizes, so that one was to scale with the occupant of the vertical tank.


The larger rifleman was sold first, followed by a 2-pack of the smaller grunts.

The full-sized rifleman sold for $15.

The smaller ones did not have a base. These 2-packs also sold for $15 each.


For these figures, Ted ordered double-sided laminate cards to include with the figures (and they no longer came with custom sketches)

Then, when Ted went to the 2011 NYC Comic Con, he brought a bunch of taxi-cab yellow grunts:

The third in the line of hand-made rivets was the "Blighter tank," otherwise known as the Quad Stug Aus F.

Adam also painted a limited set of 5 Quad Stugs. These each came in a custom foam-lined box, with a Stug, a Keg of Rumple Minze Schnapps, a Rockety Cycle print, a Stug stats card, a wax-sealed envelope containing combat orders, a production tag, and one of Ted's original watercolors. These quickly sold out at $85 (plus shipping):


Finally, another early modification was made by Alex from AlexZ Art:

It's really interesting to see one of the units I haven't seen much of at all, however it was one of the first units designed for the game. I would assume it would've been changed over time, but it's strange to see it was removed alltogether.

Do you mean the vert tank? It's not removed, just in the 2nd wave.

OH! It is? Strange... Well I'm glad it still made it in. Strange it's not in the base set but I am still glad it didn't disappear alltogether.

I really wanted the vert tank in the core box but it didn't fit the game. It wasn't big enough to be the tank, but it was too powerful as a secondary unit. It almost got put in as an allied hero but that didn't feel right so the Wolverine got that spot and the vert tank was put on the back burner.

Thanks for posting this binary, haven't seen most of these pics in a long while, the boxer remains my favorite rivet custom.

yeah the boxer watercolour is probably my favorite. it would have been awesome to have him as a hero. I guess I can understand why he isn't in. but it is still disappointing

edit: on second thought, no, I dont understand. he should have been included
