So i ordered and received my KS of Ak level. I am very happy with what I got and aside from the few minor mistakes that were made(hadross box being listed as goritsi) everything is good. My problem i am having is the bases. They were designed for the basing inserts which is cool but i didnt order them. The models were also designed for the basing inserts with pegs on their feet. Both of these are bad and i am wondering what you guys are doing for basing if you didnt order the inserts? Also will CMON be selling the base inserts separately?

The miniatures do not fit on the bases without the inserts?

My friend cut the pegs off and just glued them to the base. He plans to fill in the base later.

I left the pegs on and cut out some corkboard sheeting and glued down into the base insert cavity and drilled out peg holes with my xacto knife.

I dipped the pegs ina spot of white glue, tapped the wet pegs on the bases to get a location for the pegs and I Dremeled the holes. I like the extra supprt that comes from pegs being in the holes. It wasn't necessary, but it only took a few minutes to do.

I was not expecting to have to manually drill holes, or cut off pegs, to have the minis fit on their bases. I will have to decide what to do with mine by the time they get here. Good point about the added stability from leaving the pegs on Nico. I imagine if you cut them off it would be difficult to get some of the models to glue properly to the base.

A few minutes x 200+ minis = a lot of minutes!

When you drilled the holes did you drill right through the base or just deep enough for the peg?

I plan to use cork board in the bases I don't have inserts for. That way I can cut a space for the pegs.

Im planning on basing all mine with litko clear bases. Simply cut thr peg off and super glue to clear base. Nice and easy and his way you get to see the awesome terrain on the table.

Cutting off pegs shouldn't take any longer than normal mini prep. Also, many companies sell minis that just glue flat to the base with no pegs and they hold up just five. Just my $.02. Also, the minis fit fine on the bases. The pegs were just designed to fit into the base inserts if I recall correctly.

It's worth pointing out that many of these minis have very small contact surface on their feet. The pegs are nice if your base can accommodate them.

I'm actually a big fan of these hollowed out bases. They make it really easy to apply one of my preferred quick basing methods:

Ingredients:
- sand and/or fine gravel
- terrain putty (I use cheap wood-fill or spackle, but any self-hardening putty works)
- some kind of sharp tool
- cup of water
- bases, models

This works best if you do large batches at once, makes the cleanup easier.
1) push a blob of putty into the hollow part of the base
2) dip it into your sand and/or manually push stones into the putty
3) use your tool on the surface a bit to make some texture
4) wet your model's feet and press them into the base to make an indent for the foot/peg
5) allow the bases to harden, then glue the models on

I drilled right through the base. I then dremeled any bits that stuck out and made it not sit even.

This basing issue is beyond frustrating! I am a gamer, though I enjoy looking at beatufilly designed bases with all kinds of work put into them, I have absolutely no interest in taking the time needed to do that. I want to build, paint and play as quickly as I can. In typical fashion CMON communicated horribly to the fact that you needed to buy the inserts unless you were a hobbyist who wanted to create your own basing. Had I known this I would have just bought the inserts, simple. Now if I buy them off their website or another site I will need to sell my first born and get a second mortgage to afford the inserts needed. All of this presently is a mute point because I have yet to receive my Kickstarter but I want to find a solution now before it gets here. The putty idea shared seems like a decent idea but with the number of bases in this campaign that is still a time consuming process. Wonder if CMON would honor their pricing on the KS for the inserts...but then again I might not hit the table until 2016 waiting on that. Anyone know of any existing inserts that could be purchased now and that would work with this peg...also that aren't going to cost me the shirt off my back?

The problem is that every miniature has pegs in a different place. Having been doing this for 30 years I have never had to do this for an army(ies) of this size. It took me about two weeks to prime, base, and basecoat everything Hadross. I am painting details now, but the basing thing threw me off because I too was not expecting it. I have a feeling most people will walk away from this game considering how much work is necessary to play. I also have a feeling people will be suprised at how much assembly is necessary. Too much in my opinion. Many of these miniatures could have been cast in one piece. They have you putting shield plates on knee armor. I mean really? They couldn't cast that? Hair pieces? Hands? Tentacles? And it is not about customization. You can't customize those I just listed. They are just there for you to glue on one way and one way only. This is not an entry level modeling adventure. This is a logistical nightmare building every army this way.

This sounds like a nightmare.

I can understand that having things like tentacles to put on may seem silly, but sometimes parts are split off because to mold them otherwise would cause breakage upon removal from the mold. As for the small contact area, that is common amongst other companies as well, and cause a problem, but it is hardly something to point a finger at CMoN and say "shame on you".

I have to agree that the armor plate thing is a bit odd, however, unless you would want to model a lighter armored guy for variety.

I'm not sure what games you've played in the past, but in my experience these models have been far easier to assemble than pretty much any other miniature game I've played (except for those flat pose pewter minis)... The indented bases are interesting because they are not just flat like many other companies, but at the same time, a nickel fills the gap on a 30mm base and significantly lowers the center of gravity making them nicer to play with... stick on a little base covering like any other game and you'll never know it's even there.

All this assembly sounds like loads of fun to me. Guess I should pick up the game when it reaches retail.

The indented bases are interesting because they are not just flat like many other companies, but at the same time, a nickel fills the gap on a 30mm base and significantly lowers the center of gravity making them nicer to play with... stick on a little base covering like any other game and you'll never know it's even there.

I agree on the assembly. I just assembled some GW minis and it was flat edge to flat edge for arms to shoulders and if it shifted at all it looked like a broken bone. These pieces fit where they're supposed to go and the sculpt quality is great. There are minis or there with simpler assembly, but that means less dynamism and variety in models.

I've built miniatures from every major company in the market, and these sound like they are no more difficult than some of the easiest to build. Parts fit snugly, they go only where they are supposed to, and have dynamic poses because of the number of parts.
I also don't understand the problem with the bases having an indented top - all round lip bases are sunk in about 1mm to make adding base inserts easier. Once you glue even the finest modelling sand on it draws level with the edge.

These are actually 2 or 3 mm deep, they are designed to fit inserts without them being to much higher than the lip

also, the complaints are coming from gamers who just want to glue and play. Saying "Just Sprinkle some sand in" is a hobbyist's responce. The complaints aren't coming from hobbyist, they are coming from people who whant the model on their table as soon as possible. Many of them won't even paint anything before they start playing.

I can see both sides of it, but even though this forum is mainly for hobbyists, this game will draw more straight up gamers who think Play 1st Hobby 2nd

Gamers are also Hobbyists.

But gaming with TT minis need normally some work like glueing, basing, painting. With a drill or a dremel (or cheaper versions), some holes are very fast made.

I'm not sure if I want to use lip-bases. I do not like them.

About the pegs, I would not remove them, they will help the mini not to break from the base during playing.
