badass, and yeah that little glazing thing is your click moment. You can fix anything and adjust as you go with glazes back and forth.

Seriously, glazes are amazing. Glazing changed my life! What I find more impressive, though, is that you could tell I tried out some glazes! That's some next level wizardry ;] I'll post more pics of Illic soon as well. I decided to give him a different head because the fine cast one (aka foul crust) was atrocious O_O

Here's the latest on Illic. I'm not 100% sold on his helmet, I might re-do the shine effect and/or colour.

And here's Illic fully painted, photographed and ready for battle! Repositioned the head, and had a try at a glow effect on the pipe running from his back to the gun, although I feel that it might be a little too subtle. I also couldn't resist adding some yellow to him, I tried adding it in several different places, finally settling with this.

Looks great! If I am to offer any criticism: Try to smoothen out the glow a bit, particularly under the tube. Looks great on the tube itself.

Hey man, thanks! I'll make sure to find smoother lighting next time I try, maybe that will help make it a little more convincing. Maybe the glow is too localised as well, as I was a little afraid of overdoing it!

Often it is a good thing to 'overdo' it, but with respect to glow, I think you are right - it quickly gets too much. I'd try to make it 'longer' and gentler, not that I ever tried to do glow myself (will soon, though).

Hey guys! A quick update on the Eldar front, here's the Wave Serpent I'm working on at the moment.

I've taken step-by-step shots along the way, and will continue to do so for an album if anyone is curious about the path I've taken painting this. More to follow soon.. the large gems on this will offer a good spot of practice too, since gems are a bit of a sticking point for me lately

I'm not one for these type of models, to be honest but the way you have done this so far looks so impressive. I have been watching your thread and it's excellent stuff.

Love your work fellow Aussie , looks neat .
It might be just the light but is that a mould line down the right arm from the shoulder guard down the sleeve onto the glove....?
i wasn't real impressed with the colour of the helmet at first but you pulled it off nicely , well done .
Are you going to Oz Painters Open at the end of the month..?.

Great progress and one of the better explanations of glazing I've read. Wish that had been around the first time I tried to figure out blending. Keep the step by steps coming. I think the black marble just lacks some sort of more organic veins of color in it. I've seen people put a glaze of a vein on an area and blend it out only to one side of the wandering line they painted, leaving a hard line edge on one area and blended to the other for good effect. (if that makes sense)
My current WIP thread. Always looking for critique. Also vote on my Gallery if you're bored

Hey, cheers guys! I'll get the step-by-step compiled soon, there's a tonne of pics though so I'll have to think about the best way to present them - maybe a link to imgur or something.

Thanks Gandalf! The scheme I've done is certainly not the first scheme that pops to mind when you think of 40k! Probably Eldar are the only force I would try something like this on. Can't imagine Chaos Space Marines rocking this.... maybe Tzeentch though

Terrafirma, the line is from the lighting, I had to look at the model myself to check! I haven't made any plans to go, in fact I've never heard of the competition before! I imagine that I'd like to paint for competitions in the near future, but no plans yet. Do you have experience with these kinds of things?

Scherdy, yep, that makes sense! Some veins as you say and maybe a little colour adjustment might see a more natural marble effect. I need to build some terrain to test it out ;P

And here's a quick update of a little progress over the week

    Hi Guys!!!

Here's an update on the wave serpent, which I've added to the gallery here: http://www.coolminiornot.com/380676

And here's wip on one of several Empire characters I've got my hands on and started painting. I've played around with hot/cold tones a bit here and had my first serious go at TMM. Painting his tiny face was hard O_O

Let me know what you guys think!!

Great looking figures, will add your thread too follow it. Need to take time and go through it one day and post some things. One improvement in the future for the eldar tank is some areas have sharper edges/transitions, you could go in and use a glaze there to soften the transitions as a final step.

    /K
work is boring when it gets in the way of my painting.

I'm with Kretcher on the Eldar.
I think your TMM could use a glaze or two of red n the highlight area. A dark green or purple glaze in the shadows.

Hey guys!! Thanks for the kind words and feedback! I'll keep at it and try out some different colours in the shadows. I haven't tried red up high though, I'll give that a shot, it's probably my most underused glaze at the moment!! Thanks BAM haha I'll keep an eye out for checkpoints ;]

Hi all! It's been a while since I've posted here, so this post is a bit of an image dump. Firstly some Empire models, then some Ultramarines. There's no step by steps or tutorials for these ones unfortunately, but I will post something of the sort again soon with some new models and new painting styles I want to try out.

    All comments/critiques welcome!

P.S. I've included a shot of my painting station at the end. The best thing about it is that I can relocate it to wherever I want!

Really like the look on the Empire guys! Marines are good too, of course, but the Imperials really shine.
