These busts are very cool and you're doing well with them so far - nice smooth painting.

Thanks. I am really taking my time on them. (I have a bad habit of rushing)

This is where the one bust came from:

Alexander. I saw the original cut and it was a tad confusing if you were not familiar with the history. I bought the final cut which is slightly reordered and supposedly includes all the footage Oliver Stone shot. The flow is now a lot nicer, but it is a very long movie.

Ok, I will stop derailing MrJim's thread.

I think I have that movie in my DVD collection. Will have to see if I can find it and watch it again. (research)

Brought my DSLR home to see if I could get some better pics today.

Forgot that I finished this one a couple weeks ago:

He turned out really well. I possibly would've chosen a lighter blue or different colour for his plume. But that's a matter of personal taste really.

    Thanks.

I agree. I was thinking about even doing it in a contrasting color.

Here an update on Alexander. Finished the hair and cape today as well as a few other details. Still a lot of work to do. The face is base and shadow, but no highlighting yet. (or eyebrows) Right now he looks like he fell asleep under a heat lamp. I used reaper paint for the first time on him. (usually use GW and Vallejo) I have to say I really like their triad paint sets. (his hair was done with the blonde hair triad)

The clothing and hair are looking good, but the skin is a tad flat. Look at the picture you posted above and you see a lot of purples and reds in the skin. You also have the nlue black of the beard stuble and the shadows under the eye brow is almost black in spots. Just my two cents.

I agree. The skin has a long way to go. Next, I will be adding the highlight colors so I can see how much deeper the shadows need to go. Once that is done, I will go through and add the final details. (eye sockets, stubble, etc)

After watching the movie and looking at the film stills, it looks like I am going to have to go a lot darker overall than I originally thought. (probably should have started with a darker base)

A little more work on the face tonight. Decided to go ahead and mount his head so I could see where to put the shadows on his neck.

Thanks. It was kinda scary doing it for the first time after putting so much work into the skin and knowing that I would have to start all over if I messed it up. At one point, it was way to dark and I thought I ruined it, but was able to tone it down with a couple glazes in the flesh colors.

Put Alexander on the side for a few days. Need to finish up his clothing and add some dark shadows to his hair, then I think he might be done.

Switched over to working on the Teutonic Knight. I think I have his face where I want it. Started putting the highlights in his hair so I could see how the face looked with the contrast of the hair. Also did some work on the fur. They scary part is yet to come - doing the freehand Teutonic banner on his shirt.

Toned down his hair a little bit with some washes. Might need to go back an add a little bit of highlights to it. I think the contrast was too strong before.

Also started roughing in the free hand for the Teutonic emblem on his shirt.
