That's... really smart! Saving this for later reference.

Today was prep and construction day. Thought I was going to prep and primer some stuff but I made the mistake of starting a GW scenery piece - the Dreadfire Portal and Eternity Stairs. Dread is the right word. Nothing in the kit fit properly. It was as if it was all left out in the sun and warped. Took hours to get it together. Now it needs about 9 pounds of green stuff to fill all the gaps. But I did get some fun pieces assembled and ready for primer and built two Torii and got the spindles on the bridge. Just need to clip them to size and mount the railing. The minis are a frog hero, lizard-men priest, and a geisha samurai - to go in a Japanese garden diorama.

Thanks for the compliments and votes. This was a very fun project.

A few more are about to get underway. I have a few really ambitious projects in mind that I will post as they get started.

A couple minis I started this weekend. Gotta find a way to get better shots at home without dragging my DSLR and lenses back and forth to work.

Started on my first 1/10 bust today. (glad I started on a cheap one) If sawing off the large blocks wasn't enough fun, the collar was made to where it was nearly impossible to remove from the block without breaking it - so of course I broke it. Figured I would just glue his head on and build it without the collar. Unfortunately, since the collar goes between the head and the body the two don't match up. So, after discovering how fast P3 super glue creates a permanent bond (measured in milliseconds) I had to find a way to save my mess. Pulled out the green stuff and gave him a frilly, lace collar. Since this is mainly practice before I tackle some of the Life Miniatures and Young Miniatures that I bought (fairly pricey) I think it came out OK.

Been a while, but I am making some progress. Here is my first 1/10 scale bust, my first 54mm figure (pirate) and the finished Frog Champion.

Trying to figure out what to do with the sleeves for the bust. This is how the box art was done, but it just looks to boring. Not a lot of detail on a $12 sculpture, but good to practice on before I tackle the Young and Life Miniatures that I bought.

I just recently attempted my first bust - she is a lot of fun, but I had to take a frustration break.

Hope you've been enjoying painting this one.

The first one (the Spanish guy with the orange sleeves) I kicked to the side. I think I want to use some green stuff to re-sculpt his sleeves since they look pretty pitiful.

The Indian is actually coming along nicely. Will have to upload some pics tonight. I bounce around a lot between projects. Sometimes it is because I am waiting for an item to finish a base or diorama. The pirate waited for two months for a palm tree from Thailand to arrive. (guess I should upload pics of him too)

Nothing wrong with bouncing between projects. Sometimes the motivation for a particular one will wane and then it's time to take a break. My problem is that I keep falling in love with new minis - very distracting!

I am in that situation too, I hope my eyes will be ok, or at least not much worse than now so I can continue painting when I got older. xD

The indian bust is really pretty (although I cannot say the same about the spaniard one, sculpt I mean), skin tone on the indian is looking smooth and natural for the moment, so nice choice of skincolours.

That's what magnifying lamps are for! And really good glasses. Lol this hobby does seem to inspire some epic collecting.

Busy season at work is over for another year and I finally get to paint minis again.

Just uploaded the stuff I finished this summer and fall to my gallery.

Now on to the next batch of fun stuff.

First up is a 54mm Ramses the Second from Art Girona. This is a really cool mini. As you can see, I base coat everything first before starting on the details. I do this because my eyes are as good nor my hands as steady as they used to be. It is a lot easier to cover up mishaps when it is all base coats.

With the base coats completed, I have been working on the face before moving on to the rest of the flesh.

That Ramses sculpt looks very cool - I like the jeweled tones you've gone with so far.

    a bit late, but:
the alice diorama looks great, so is the frog with it's base.

about the bust: you should really add more shadows and highlights to it (skin, armor and the orange sleeves too). The orange you could highlight with ivory making nice pastely highlights, and shade... well originally blue, but I'd advise purple.

    about the pic from today:
I think you should make stronger highlights/shades on the bigger figures too (both bust and 54mm criminal).
Also why 2 SD Kitty-s ? Will you use them in AQ/SDE games?
    Forgot, that it works again.
