Thanks. I discovered (the day after I poured the resin and sealed it) that Lychen looks exactly like branch coral when you paint it. Now I need to do another coral reef scene to try it out. Might do one of the new GW water elves. (Deepkin)

Thanks John. It was a great learning experience. One of the judges was the instructor that taught the class I went to in Texas last month. He walked through with me after the judging and gave me some tips on how to improve my painting. Was also able to talk to some of the other painters and get some tips from them as well.

That’s awesome jimbo I’m glad your able to be one of those artists where if an artist you respect an appreciates gives you advice you run with it. That’s exactly how I am and it gets you to improve by 10x (fold) . Here’s the reason why -follow me here now jimbo- if somebody who’s amazing hivesbus advice starting off they are only able to give advice of the beginner or novice kind. That is the level we’re at when we start . But when we’re now into competing etc etc and we’re not only at a level that enables the higher ups to give us that new kingdom of advice ,(THE GOOD STIFF, stuff like glaze here and use warm here and cool mid tones there etc) this is now where we improve THE MOSTas were good enough now to not only understand and comprehend these new ADVANCED TECHINIQUES, but implement them as if we were the pros ourselves using a mastery of “brush control” and ability to dilute paints perfectly for each type of medium wether it’s glaze or layer or etc etc. I have a feeling jimbo that we’re not having seen the grater from you yet as you continue to climb in your skills and beating yourself each bust you do. I can only imagine that when you set out to rework those already wonderfully painted busts for nova or MMSI THST WERE ALL invFOR A NEW , better more improved paintingjob from our jimbo!!!

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I am hoping that the classes and competitions will keep me motivated to do my best and continue to improve. Now I just need to hire someone to help out at the store so I have more time (and energy) to paint.

Camera died so I haven't been able to post any WIP pictures lately. Bought a second body for my Nikon and brought home one of my lenses to give it a try. I started this last month as part of a tribute piece to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Red Baron's last flight. This is going onto a stand in front of my first ever plane model. (the Fokker DR-1 he was shot down in) I just got this far enough along to assemble it. Have some touch up to do here and there and finish the coat.

This is the other project I am working on. This is from Ouroboros Miniatures's Kickstarter = New Skin. When finished, she will have tubes coming out of her, connecting her to the machine. The machinery is all scratch built. Some may recognize the robotic arms. They are the arms and legs of a GW Tau XV-95 with some grinding and filing to make them fit together.

Ludwig's looking really good (and appropriately cocky) and I love what you've done with the android. Clever use of the tau bits.

Now there’s a huuuuge improvement jimbo. Painting has leveled up with the newest military pilot bust. The Android is also on the up spectacular use of kit bashing and presentation. Should be well recieved at the Capital pallete!!!

Very nice Mr Jim!!! I really like the metallics on the ‘new skin’ bust... I’m kind of regretting not getting a copy, I procrastinated too long and missed out, ive seen a lot of variation in what people are doing with it and it looks heaps of fun to paint... looking forward to seeing how you progress with it!!!

Thanks. The metallics are Green Stuff World color shift paint. I got tired of waiting for the paint to arrive so I made my own with color shift automotive pigment and did that first, then painted the GSW stuff over top. I like the paint I made better so I have a bottle of AK paint stripper on my desk to take home tonight. Once of the KS orders are shipped, they will have the bust on their website.

Thanks BAM and Foxtail. The Red Baron is a great bust to paint. You have to paint it in ten different pieces, but they go together flawlessly with no touch up required. Hats off to Alexandros for a great design.

It does have nice details, however, the details in the chest are really easy to lose if your paint is a little to thick or a little too wet and fills the grooves. That's what happened to mine and why I stripped it to start over. Between the gloss black undercoat and the color shift paints, it starting losing its detail.

I find the skin colours on her very disconcerting. They did a great job with this sculpture.

Good luck with this attempt, it's going well so far I think

Very really do I say this but this piece should NOT. Be stripped even if your not happy with it. The colors are ama ing and look like a triad of colors working together perfectly rly. Please stay with this a nd see it through this is the one bud. It just is plain and simple.
