Thread: ArchArad's Corner (WIPs and Painting Goodness!)

    Default Proof of Life

    I am still around!

And I even got my primed Skaven Grey Seer out and started laying some paint down on him. No pictures yet because I'm taking my time to get back into the swing of things and I'm experimenting with glazing and using a wet palette. Also I've been battling to get the right colour tones that match the idea I have in my head of him. But it'll start coming back to me.

Unfortunately disaster then struck! My back and hip have been giving me major hassles for the last two weeks or so. And unfortunately it hurts too much to sit in one position and paint. So my already slow progress has ground to a halt. But a couple of visits to the chiropractor have things starting to feel better so I hope I'll be back at it next week!

Why don't you guys post me pics of minis you're currently drooling over (either because of the sculpt or the box art) to give me some eye-candy to look at while I get better.

Look arch there's an old saying when I worked as a physical therapist which I have a degree in if something hurts more than a week and a half there is a problem that needs addressing....it could be anything,a pinched nerve, spasms, minute tears of the connective tissue etc etc....my point is if you DO NOT. Get a medical professional to see exactly what it is it can get worse and worse and nobody want to be crippled in a wheelchair.....with these kinds of things it's better to be IN THE KNOW!!! We love and cherish you so go get answers .

@BAM - Thank you my friend. *hugs* A bit more context is probably what is needed. At the end of 1997 I had an accident that resulted in a broken back amongst other things. My angels were clearly looking after me that day because, although I damaged three of my thoracic vertebrae, I did absolutely no damage to my spinal cord. As a result of the damage though I do have an extra few degrees in one of the natural curves of my spine and that can cause muscles in my lower back to take strain if I push myself too much. Added to that I also have a pelvis that occasionally goes out of alignment.

Now, all of this sounds pretty dramatic. But I really don't have a problem 98% of the time.

Anyway, my hip went slightly out of alignment and was pinching a nerve. Instead of going to see someone straight away I applied heat to it and assumed it would ease off in a few days. It didn't and the surrounding muscles went into spasm trying to stop it moving any further out of place. Then the spasm spread to my lower back muscles.

I have been to the chiropractor twice already and things are greatly improved. He's gotten my pelvis back in place and we're working on easing my muscles so that they don't continue spasming.

Honestly arch two weeks needs some anti inflator idea and strengthening of muscles so the chiropractor doesn't have to keep postponing the real issue of weekend muscle on an out of alignment hip or displasia. Almost getting g a job with the Indianapolis colts football team I'm saying this strongly as there's is delaying a problem by seeing a chiro (which I'm not fond of) . As a strength conditioning coach and movement specialist I can tell you when the pain subsides try looking into corrective excercise so you can stay pain free and not having to do what everybody else does : going to chiros: I'm in a very strong stance as a one time professional (now disabled from anything as a former fighter and coach: please I care about you and it's always been a mission of mine to 1)educate and to alleviate people by curing underlying ailments and pain generated by these things. The real goal is to keep muscles strong and not having to get it pseudo corrected everyone it pops out.

Lol. Not really angling for sympathy, but I'll take it! You're always welcome to jump in with advice - I have an older brother, so I'm completely used to the protective tendencies. And you're doing really well with the compliments....if only I could believe them...

@KruleBear -Thanks my friend. I hope that your health niggles have also been cleared up.

In other news: my self-imposed exile has paid off, I got my results back and I passed all five courses with distinctions! *careful happy ArchArad dance*

I've registered for the next five courses for the second semester and I have a LOT of reading in my future! But as a self-confessed bookworm I am completely at one with that.

    Ouch!
I all too well understand the problems of a bad back. (Too many years of bad posture, not to mention the "cuddle factor")
I've recently started some yoga exercises (Cobra posture and similar) which have started to help a lot.
While not going to recommend it as a cure all, it might be worth discussing with a Yoga instructor of good quality.

@Dragonsreach - I found that Tai Chi really helped because it strengthened my stomach and lower back muscles which take the most strain. I really just needs to get organised and start doing more regular exercise again.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the "cuddle factor"?
