Thanks, friends. I am enjoying the basing for sure. Especially because it goes so much faster than the painting!

Here’s a little peek behind our hero so you can see what’s happening. Still plenty to be done, but things are starting to come together.

If you’ve seen my blog lately, you knew I wouldn’t hold back on the moss!

Here’s another step forward on the base for my Random Encounter.

Coming together perfectly Toad, I can recommend the AK Slime and Grime oils for adding in that delicate touch of green to the underside of your rocks...easy to adjust to the tone as well with use of enamels.

If you are going for that damp, sodden ground look as well I've alos seen oils used over the top of soil to add a level of saturation and moisture to the finish.

    Great work though!

Ah, you turkey! I was so hoping not to have to use those enamels!

I’ve resolved not to cut any corners, though, so I really appreciate your feedback. I added them on and it looks better (but less pretty!). I’ll be interested to see how it develops as the paint cures over the next few days.

The mossy wall looks fantastic, in fact the entire base looks great!

Your latest base is wonderful. It doesn’t detract from the figure but holds its own. Moss looks good.

Thanks a lot, fellas. Appreciate the support.

Here’s the next step in the process. I think I may stop here, excepting little tune-ups. I had thought about flowers, but I’m not sure where I’d work them in effectively, and I’m not sure they fit the mood of the scene.

I personally toad would ixnay on the flowerays !!! I feel the base where it’s at is a perfect display for the model to sit on. I like how it contrasts against the model. Flowers might just say hey he added everything at the end. The rocks moss and grass are perfect composition to that beutuful model .

If I were you I would flower the sh$t out of this base! Put so many flowers you can't even tell there is a wood block underneath it (or a figure on it)!

Looks great Toad, the extra length grass adds a lot in my opinion, as does the extra level of mossy tone from the enamels...(made me smirk that you just happened to have the exact paints to hand!)

If you were going the flower route, I would keep it to a solitary stem maybe to act as an accent....worth getting the finished piece together first though and offering it up to see if it really added anything to the compositition...or just becam a distraction.

    Lovely work!

Thanks, guys. Eki, I decided to go with BaM’s suggestion instead of yours. Hope you’re not offended!

Anyway, here is a shot of the final version of this trusty friend. It will feel odd starting an entirely new project after this one has occupied me for so long.

Sooner or later I’ll get some half decent photos and throw them up on the Chap. Keep an eye out.

Lovely piece StToad! I think your base did him justice, it tells a story but does not overwhelm the figure.

Thanks a lot, guys. You all know how much the support means! I’m really glad you like him. And Eki, thanks for your understanding!

This will be the next project. I sort of hate him at the moment, since I had to prime him 4 times... don’t ask! I’ve told BaM I want to bring two new pieces that showcase my current abilities well to NOVA, so I’m trying to get this finished in the next few weeks. Wish me luck!

Oh, and I did put some shots of my dwarf up on the website if you’re interested.
