This guy was sitting around, asking to be painted like his friends. I started with his face, hand, eyes, and mustache.

I like how gang of misfits is turning out, NMM has a huge learning curve, I still haven't figured out how to do steel myself. And that's a crazy piece of terrain, so many moving parts.

Lovely bit of proper modelling there Toad....need to see a video of it in full on transformer mode.

Great idea to make a multifunctional piece. Great stuff

Thanks, guys. Hairster, you might be right about the need for a video of "transformer mode". We'll see how well all the machinery works after it's painted. I'm a worried that the tolerances are too tight and the mere operation of the various moving bits might strip off the paint and leave it bare white plastic. I'm hoping I can develop a highly adaptable modular system of terrain that will allow me to re-use elements in different contexts while still having enough peculiarity to make it feel customized and purpose-built.
Fluister, I'm even more impressed at all the great NMM painters now that I'm actually committed to trying to learn and improve in that technique. What stands out even more, though, are the stylistic & technical differences at the top end of NMM painting. I wouldn't mistake Sproket's metals for Skelettes's, or Andy's, or 10's, or yours, but they all look amazing. The same can be said of TMM, of course, but I think the range of personal difference may be a bit more wide in NMM. Anyway, it's hard, and it's awesome!

    SaintToad! *pounce* *hugs*

Glad to see you're still specialising in eye-wateringly small miniatures. Your style has come a long way since I was last around. Well done you.

Maybe try and shave down the moving parts on the building now, and trust that they paint will thicken them back up to tolerance?
Hardly the same, but I found on my Stormwolf recently I left the moving parts too tight, and now some of them don't even move.

    Outstanding build though

Though I said hello in another thread, it's really nice to hear from you again, Arch. You've been keeping very busy!
Foxtail, I think I'll try shaving down some of the tightest fits, given what you've said. I've lost a bit of momentum on that (and all other) project(s), but I certainly do want to pick it up and finish it. I've been doing a bit of trimming out and finishing, which makes for boring WIP but nicer stuff in the end, hopefully. Also lots of slacking and moping.
I was forced to get off my ass a little tonight, though, as I've agreed to raffle this little guy off for a non-profit called Hekima Place (I stayed there when I visited Kenya last year). We're holding the raffle at school/work.

I brought him in to show the kids what I was offering, but his arm got broken somehow. I had to bring him home and fix him, and of course I figured I'd add a few more leaves to try to heed the suggestion someone (Maenas? He gives very good feedback. I'll say Maenas) gave a few weeks ago. I was unable to rediscover that lovely blush color I got on the leaves last time, but the new ones are the less pinkish, more brown/orange ones with considerable Ivory veining. I put them on the body (for wind and to hide the crack, which is not perfectly fixed, given my need to get it done quickly), in the grass (again for wind) and on the ground (where I felt it looked crappy for any reason). In two of my three applications, I'm hiding mistakes at the same time as I'm hopefully improving the overall look. You guys can be the judge of my success. I probably added about 15 of the tiny little buggers, each painted, then bent, then super-glued into place. Base is 2" square.

Well I was on the "less is more" side of the things, but the new placements of those leaves makes it work a little better IMO. (wind/movement blowed leaves)
PS: Have a look at my WIP, I posted those interesting experiments with the still water and inks for you to see....

Thanks, Canny. We raffled the Roman greenskin off today. I forgot to count the total he raised, but it was one of the more popular items. He went to a great home, a superb Latin student of mine whom I've taught for two years. She's taking French next year, so her Gallic sensibilities may regard this guy as the enemy, rather than the hero of his scene. Maybe he's fleeing some Gallic dwarves?!

Bit more progress on the archer. This guy has a lot of tiny little pieces to get to.

All these RBG dudes are theoretically for the role playing game my friend & I are creating. This batch will include some playable characters, I think. The cowardly big guy will join the inept town guard. The male dwarf's hammer has been chopped, to be replaced, I think, with a hatchet. I suppose cooking spoon is still in play...

Here'a bit more work on this guy, including the cold metals. Criticism & advice appreciated, of course, especially on the NMM.

Metals are looking nice there. The cloth could do with a couple more layers to give it a bit more depth but the texture of it looks very nice.

Cheers, Andy. You mean the red cloth or the green? You want the highlights up a bit?
