Ha! Love the photoshop masterclass there Toad...very good. I also killed a never ending stream of these as a child by massively overwatering with tap water.

They have thrived so far under my rigorous non-interference in the workings of nature. Rain water has conveniently fallen from the sky most of June (which has also been very sunny). I've collected it for dry days, so no tap water for the Slambo-eaters. We'll see if I can get them through the Winter!

Here are some buildings & figures laid out on a 1x1' board which I worked on for a few hours today. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I want to texturize them, paint them, etc. Now Prototown has a bit of dirt beneath it, anyway! Everything in the picture is still WIP, but it is starting to look cool, if I say so myself. Maybe there is enough stuff far enough along to create a bit of depth to the world. Hopefully, anyway!

Hope you're all living the dream.

Some tight, photos with lots of depth of field will look amazing on this set up once it is complete and you have fully populated your world. Keep layering on that texture, make it as filthy and medieval as possible.

If you can add as much character to the well trodden path through the village as you do to your minis this will be gold.

The Witcher 3's towns and villages oozed character from all the details of poverty stricken, ransacked squalor...looks right on par with what you are doing here. Well worth a search around on google...there are a huge amount of reference images. (probably teaching you to suck eggs here but thought it was worth a mention)

So much potential here Toad. Great stuff

Thanks, Hairster. In the name of medieval filth I added enamels to each of the four buildings here. It's more obvious on the plaster wall than elsewhere, but we'll see what it looks like in a few days. Enamels do sort of change quite a bit. I also stained much of the board with washes, then re-flocked much of it.

She is definitely angry, and looks like she has a bit of stubble so definitely a dwarf. Nice work on the face, you do great on these tiny models Toad

Have been away for awhile, good to come back and see the awesome work continue. I like how there is so much character in each model and the setting, keep it coming.

Attempts to apply apply professor Powell's leather & woodgrain tips. Pretty much just metals left.

Here are a few hours of effort on the brass parts of the crossbow dwarf. Please offer feedback if you have it. I am eager to improve my NMM.
The highlights on the shirt are not as bright as those on the metal, but even in natural light I can't really get the white balance (or whatever) sorted on the camera.

Silver nmm on the crossbow looks brilliant buddy. Nice and high contrast, blacks in the side right up to whites on the edges.

The gold looks good too, but could perhaps pop a little more. Maybe take a look at http://razzaminipainting.blogspot.co...ic-metals.html
Specifically the part about white reflection edge highlights in places you wouldn't expect.

I should add that I have absolutely no comprehension of how to paint nmm that well.

    Good work!

I put that goblin pirate up for my friend, who leaves town today. First vote's a 5. I'm not sure I understand how that mentality works. Is it a sense of justice or a sense of spite? It's not actually a 5, right?

Sorry, shitty day all the way around.

Postcript: as soon as I wrote that, my lost cat returned. And my grandmother was gonna die, but now she's not. Screw the 5, I'm gonna make it.

Foxtail, I read that great article and tried to apply Darren's insights into finishing your metals with shine on the brass, as you suggested. This girl is pretty little, so I hope things look sharp enough, but I do think it helped. Thanks, bud!

    Default Nasty 9!

I'll go back and highlight mossy crap after a few things are dry (some more urine, for one thing), but these guys are pretty much done, I think. I finished all of them today, though most were nearly done already. There are the kernels of two NPC factions, I guess, and two player characters. I'm not even sure what the game is, to be honest.
I'll try to get the terrain back online soon, for any who are interested in that part of this project. And learn how to shoot better pictures, I guess. Anyway, hope you like 'em.

I'll wait for a better day, weather-wise, and try to get these guys sealed in protective varnish. I've got the next batch underway, but I need to get some more serious armor etc. to force the issue on my NMM. It does not come naturally to me, though many remark how easy it is. I gain more respect for some of you amazing artists on here every time I try it.
