Default GW possibly bringing back specialist games

Just saw this over on BoW:
    http://www.beastsofwar.com/games-wor...ames-workshop/

Not sure how much truth is behind it but it definitely got my nostalgia going, these are the games that got me into the hobby, will definitely be keeping an eye on it and hoping at least some nice minis come out of it

It looks like someone is trolling hard.

I will believe it and fet excited when more official images are leaked.

But a new EPIC game, or Necromunda game would be cool. And redicuosly overpriced.

I'll believe it once I've seen it on the website or go see my local GW and see what they say about it.

I think epic was my first game, my next door neighbour had titan legions and we used to play every now and then

I'm a bit sceptical too, it seems odd they would announce it this way especially as they notoriously give next to no information about upcoming releases until a week or two before it hits the shelf, and if it is true, their recent trend of limited edition runs on games and their pricing is a worry, IMO one of the greatest strengths of these games was that they were cheaper than warhammer and 40k and required less models which made it easier to get into the hobby when I was young, I think gw is likely to miss those points and rely on people who used to play them ho would be willing to pay a small fortune for a rerelease

My local GW manager confirms it. It is true.

Betrayal at Calth is the first game from this new division.

It also enables FW to use GW plastic manufacturing.

Awesome news, can't wait to see some of the new stuff, did the manager say if it includes all specialist games? It will be interesting to see what fw can do in plastics and I'm wondering if it includes 54mm stuff for inquisitor or perhaps they will remake that in 28mm

Besides lotr/hobbit, no game systems are known at this time.

but yeah. A plastic 54 mm line of minis would be awesome. Even a resin one.

Well the announcement image named a few, whether or not its accurate who knows, presumably the ones where the minis can be used in 40k or aos are pretty safe bets, this certainly has me more interested than anything else they've done in the last year or two

I started playing Epic Armageddon with some friends this year, and what makes that game great is that it's been developed for years by the community after GW pulled the plug (prior to that, both GW AND the community developed it). What I fear is that if GW re-releases Epic, it will fragment the actual community between the Epic Armageddon players and the new version ones... and that new version probably will be a píece of ****, if we look at the recent examples of GW's games.

Maybe they'll release some cool minis for it though, of the right scale and with nice details... one can only dream.

a deciding factor could be price (GW is famous for it ).
I'd love to have a few epic titans for example, but with a limit on spending.
    Forgot, that it works again.

The same thing happened with blood bowl, it has continued without gw and there are still tournaments for it and other companies have made fantasy football teams,as for splitting the players, its entirely possible, perhaps the new rules will be similar to what the community has already done with these games, maybe they'll do what they did for aos and put the core rules up for free download

If memory serves the imperator titan was roughly the same size as a dreadnought from 40k, so logicly they could be similarly priced, though sometimes I wonder if they uses dartboard to determine prices, I'm unlikely to buy the game boxes unless they are a good deal for models, simply because I'm unlikely to play them, but I am looking forward to see any minis that come out for them and trying to forget how much they used to cost lol

There is a news item on their app that lists the following games: Bloodbowl, Battlefleet Gothic, Necromunda and Epic as games they will make again.

Just reinstalled the all to check it out, sounds like they might consider the others later on, if these ones do well enough I suppose, definitely interested in BB, it was my favourite gw game, necromunda was always cool too, looking forward to seeing fw's efforts on it, I became less interested in epic but if there's some nice minis I won't rule it out bfg came out after I stopped collecting minis so no real attachment to it and its not my kind of thing mini wise either

Quite interesting that they've made an announcement on it so early on, doesn't seem like typical behaviour from them

Nope. But the veil of secrecy has been lifted after they stopped pushing lotr/hobbit stuff.

I can't help but think that BFG would have trouble catching on with the popularity of X-wing and Armada. I know they're two different animals, but still...

I think many of the old specialist games will now have competition, I can think of 3 different sports themed games to compete with blood bowl, I don't know much about infinity or malifaux but they seem similar to mordheim and necromunda on the surface at least, there's quite a few spaceship battle themed games now too, I think most of them have alternatives where other companies came in to fill the niches of the cancelled specialist games

yep, each specialist game have numerous alternatives now, so besides the nostalgia factor it will be hard to come back. especially after burning the bridges to previous customers.

as for bfg: besides the firestorm armada, halo, xwing/swarmada a big competition can be the dropfleet commander.

Yeah saw these the other day, really like the human thrower, very reminiscent of the old plastic one from the box, the orc looks like a good step up from the old ones from the box, I'm guessing he's a black orcor lineman as one of the concept arts is the orc blitzer, I like the look of the human blitzer art too, looks like they are putting in the effort to make these look good which they really needed to as there's so many others companies doing fantasy football minis now

Let's just hope they don't overprice these too badly

Yeah and not just with the availability of the items they've destroyed the player base for all the non core games and I'm not sure they have the reach to grab them back with the dissolution of WD. It was no problem to find multiple players, old and new for any specialist game (except gorkamorka, it never got any love) on a regular day in a GW store. There's not even GW stores anymore.
Don't get me wrong I'd love to see most of the specialist games range back, that can't really happen now because of the destruction of the assets, but new versions might be cool.
