Thread: Mother's Day Weekend for Expo 2016?

Default Mother's Day Weekend for Expo 2016?

Last year was Father's Day weekend. This year is on Mother's Day weekend. Does no one at CMON have a calendar with the national holidays on it?

If you can only show your appreciation to your Mother or Father on one day of the year, you're doing it wrong!

There are 364 days you SHOULD be happy to spend time with them.

Agree with dragons reach....you all should know much better than that....anyone only spending a NAT holiday with the people who raised you into the man or woman you are today is pretty lame.

So, can we expect the CMON Expo to be over Christmas Weekend, New Years Weekend, Easter Weekend, Halloween, or even Tuesday thru Thursday on any given week? If the goal is to grow the attendance figures, then having it on a traditional "Spend the weekend with Family" weekend is not in line with the goals. It is not about using just this one weekend a year to show appreciation. It is about family traditions of gathering the extended family, similar to Christmas, Thanskgiving, and Easter. Maybe my family is just more sensitive to the decline in traditions in today's society.

In all fairness, this is a pretty selfish mentality in regards to this argument. While you're not wrong, this is purposefully twisting an emotional argument in the direction you want it to go with the justification that you should care about a particular person (in this case, a mother) every day, and thus this "holiday" isn't special.

Unfortunately, that justification means nothing to the actual mother in question, because it's a day that through societal (and perhaps traditional) expectation a mother is potentially anticipating a bit of special attention. AND, that's not accounting for special circumstances outside of simply you, as an individual, spending time with the woman that birthed/raised you. In my situation, for instance, I have a wonderful wife who has mothered my two children, both of whom are of a young age, and it is my responsibility to her and to them to help my boys make something special for her. And that's just one example, because if one thing is true about modern society, many of us live considerably varied lifestyles.

That's not to say I'm not going to the Expo, and it's not to say that I'm not staying on Sunday and celebrating Mother's Day for my wife with my children on a different day. It's just an example that other people live life differently than you do, and it's not fair to makes the justifications you've made and assume they are applicable to everyone.

Looks like 2018 is Mother's Day weekend as well. I live in North Atlanta and would love to go all 3 days, but I do have to live with my wife for the rest of the year. I will try and sneak in on Friday this year. CMON - maybe the weekend before or after in 2019?

Well I would consider yourselves lucky as I live in Western Australia and all our miniature expos and competitions fall on 0 weekends of the year. My whole life I could only dream of attending these types of events, so really you could look at it as being extremely privileged to have the possibility to even be able to go to one...
