Really nice job on the Dio! That painted backdrop you made for it really works well with that piece.

Fantastic. It really gives the eye lots to rove over. You’ve achieved a real sense of depth, which is something minis traditionally lack. Super job.

Bravo sir. This is how I wanted my jungle squad to look from a few years ago but the jungle scenery was rushed and looked it!
cost me a finalist pin because the painting on the minis was strong but overshadowed by my very poor base work.
This is how I would do it next time, well done

Cheers everyone, Been a few weeks since my last post again...

The diorama is shelved now until nearer the end of Feb when I will finish off the last details ready for IronSkull competition in the UK.

Meanwhile I have been working on a limited print model from @xlanax_lot on Instagram that he kindly sent me. This was his first 3D sculpt and print - amazing job eh? It’s probably nearer a 54mm scale and bigger than the GW lizard men so there’s a bit more room to detail things up.

I started of with a lizard reference pic and based the airbrush undercoat on that. Once I started painting though things developed and the scales took on more of a prismatic colourway which I ran with. It 95% complete now and I’m waiting on base materials to complete it.

Great model that shows off a lot of your signature moves. Love that shimmer!

This looks outstanding Hairster! The colors are so subtle but so sharp. I love the desaturated pink on the tongue, and the sharp highlights on the scales. The sculpt is very well done too, congrats to @xlanax_lot.

Dumbfounded by that jungle base... can't even begin to understand how to make something that epic...

By chance do you have a background in art? What resources did you use to progress so quickly? I was looking through your WIP and really the progress you've made is astounding!

Hey! Assuming you are the same Lost I chatted with via replies on instagram the other day?

I do indeed have a background in Art - an Art degree and I've been a working designer for events and trade shows for the past 24 yrs. I painted minis in my early teens for a few years to no particular level and then started again a few years back for relaxation.

I've really just pushed on from there and this WIP pretty much charts every stage of my progression and every mini I've painted. Regarding resources it only really goes as far as CMON, instagram and a bit of youtube. I've never attended any painting classes/masterclasses, although I would like to find time to.

The biggest motivator for me has been competitions, I entered GD 2017 with the Skaven BloodBowl team you can see back in this WIP on a whim and did ok. More importantly it exposed me to competition level miniatures and painters. I've since made a good group of friends through the competitions and we talk, share work regularly and try to help each other out through Messenger.

Keep painting, that's the biggest thing - I try to paint for an hour a day, every day if i can (not always possible with work and family). Don't be afraid to mess things up, that's the way you learn and don't be afraid to try things new.

Thanks for the kind words as well, much appreciated!

That is a beautiful lizard man! I really like the look of the higher saturation yellow hands and feet against the more muted underbelly parts. Is this one going to get an elaborate base as well?

Super nice work going on here! I haven't had the chance to go back further than the jungle base yet. I plan to though.

    Cheers! Few updates to show....

Been working on the base for the Lizardman....sculpting some ruined components in Fimo and then embedding them in my plinth, building up the texture and scenery with milliput.

I laid down some airbrush base coats then worked up the texture and highlights with brushes

Foliage was all foraged moss and micro plants that I dried out, finally I did a small resin pour into the base and cleaned up once set ready for a plinth repaint.

Giving the resin a couple more days to completely go off before finishing this off. In the mean time I’ve also been working on something new and a bit different.

Amazed to take gold in Fantasy Single Mini at the new IronSkull painting competition in London yesterday with my Lizardman. There were some exceptional pieces on show at the event, I entered six categories and came away with a gold and bronze Skull and three commended tokens. Amazing day out with lots of extremely talented painters.
