Started a couple more projects this week,a Dungeons and Dragons Frost Giant and a Harry Potter Mountain Troll. The Troll stands 8 inches when complete, it was broken down into it's separate components and then rebuilt using Araldite. The cavities were filled with Ronseal wood filler which sets like concrete in a few minutes, any over spill on the joints was sanded flat with wet and dry paper. The join line around the torso and the mould line around the arms were worked with a small diamond file and scalpel then burnished with steel wool to soften the effect and to blend in with the existing skin texture. The joints were drilled out with a Dremel to get a nice snug fit.

Two sub assemblies finished just needing a bit of filling in a couple of places, the legs were glued and screwed on and then this is glued and screwed to the torso.

Picked up a wooden base from Hobbycraft for £2 which was filled, sanded and then the edge was burnished with wire wool to get a super smooth finish. The Troll was glued and screwed to this. The hands were a nightmare to prep as the mould line went all between the fingers. The club is just a piece of old wood which was worked with a Dremel to give a little more character, this was then fitted into the hand by forcing the fingers open, once in place the hand was put in boiling water for 3 minutes and clamped over night to give a nice tight grip around the club.Filling work was then completed on the main assembly leaving just the hands and head to attach then blend in.I've include a near finished pic but the hands and head are just pressed on at this stage.

With the exception of the filling and completion of groundwork the Troll is now finished. The slate on the base has started to be blended in with Magic sculpt also there are some extra creatures on the base, a frog, rat and goblin. The hand was drilled in two places and brass rod glued in to hold the club in place then super glue was run all around the inside .

Troll construction now finished.Head and neck blended and textured with Magic sculpt then the whole figure painted with liquid green stuff to unify the surface on all the areas that had been worked on .The base was covered with PVA then sprinkled with five different sizes of small stones, gravel and sand.Once this was banged to knock off the excess a runny mix of PVA,water and a few drops of washing up liquid(to break surface tension) was applied with a pipette to firmly hold everything in place.

This is a really cool construct...love seeing how you are bringing it back to life.

BUT, he better see a DR about that water retention issue with his legs...wouldn't want to amputate! Lol

Got a good amount of painting done on the first day, using grey mixed with Windowlene to allow better flow through my airbrush, then blocking in some other areas with a brush.Got a bit of shape into the club and stump too.Leave now to harden for a day and next will be a wash of the skin and other areas using enamel to allow better control with the extended drying time. You're right about his legs Krule, they are monstrous but probably great for a bit of human crushing.

Decided to use acrylic with a slow dry gel to do the shadows on the Troll, it's a massive figure to handle and progress is slow.

More skin highlighting on the Troll plus washed some purple and red into the knees and elbows to add some more interest to these areas.Cracked into the base in a very rough way and will now start to bring this up with some subtle washes and dry brushing.

Nearly finished all the work on the base today which is another monster amount of detail to sort but now almost there.Bringing in all the little details and liking the way the troll and base are looking as a whole piece. The toad and snotling aren't quite finished .....but not long now.
