Wing membranes are done. Started basecoating the boney spines and I've done a couple of the missing scales on the mawkrusha's back with pink.

Apologies for the giant photos if you're on a computer. Using the iPad at the moment rather than my camera so I can't resize them.

I really like the colours you're got happening on the wing membranes. Looking forward to seeing the whole beast.

Frzntoz, Ten - thanks very much. It means a lot.

I've reworked the spines on the head, they're a bit smoother now. First time using BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD as well around the mouth. The half-dried clumps of glossy red make excellent bits of gore. The head's had appropriate matte and gloss varnishes applied so is just dry fit on the body for the picture.

Toying with the idea of tipping the horns with black, like some spiny animals.

Did the work on the cloth for the removable headpiece as well. It's come out a little green on the photos for some reason but I'm happy with it.

I'd forgotten just how much I hate painting yellow. For the armour panels you can see that are brown, I had planned to work up to yellow, but I think instead starting at ochre and shading down to brown and up to yellow might work better.

This looks really good! I think the "reptilian" nature of the mawcrusher is really coming to life. I like the layers of color as well. It is an advanced technique that really looks great! Much like the Space Wolves a while back, seeing you do such an awesome job on these Orks makes me want to paint something green now too

Excellent work mate, personally I prefer it without the mask (the model in general) I'm no expert at yellow but on the rare occasion I try it I start with the gw base yellow (averland sunset?) Glaze some xv-88 into the shadows and go up through lighter yellows up to ivory, if it gets too white ish then yellow ink or the gw yellow glaze paint to bring it back. But saying that I think I've only painted something yellow once or twice

    Thanks a lot guys.
Sicks, I'm with you on the mask, I think there's a lot more detail if you leave it off. I'll heed your advice on the yellow too.

Nothing major to show off on the maw krusha or orruk at the moment, but the replacement base is on its way.

And with the top layer removed so I can paint the inside...

More details to go until I start painting it up. Sorry for the giant photos again.

I like the Maw. Not being able to see the face head on, I assuming that the blood is primarily on the teeth. With it looking like some fresh gore, I' add more down the front and the chin (if it isnt already there). Otherwise painting looks great. I like the idea of black tipped spikes too.

    Base is coming along nicely.

Wow, great progress. Those scales work really well, and the teeth gore look nasty.
And that chocolate sponge & custard cake you're making looks yummy as well.

Looking great and really diggin the little details like the bits of pink flesh. i also like the bare head better.

BTW-I have found the Photogene app really easy to use on the iPad. In most cases I crop with it and then save to 640 pixel before uplaoding to the forum.

Thanks guys. I'm getting the first layers of paint down on this tonight.

The beige goop is Vallejo Desert Sand. Basically filler mixed with fine grit sand. I love the stuff, I find it gives a much better texture than just gluing on sand, and has the added benefit of being a little bit sculptable.

    KB, app now downloaded. Cheers!

Great looking work Fox! An yeah, I've been using the Vallejo basing stuff for a few years now (back before it got coloured and was just called Sandy Paste) and it's pretty great - so versatile and so much cleaner to use than sand and glue!

Terrain work is coming along on the base. There're still the skulls, deceased khorne chap and banners to paint until I can take another stab at some water effects.

With the rock the model's going to sit on...

And without, so I can still access the innards to paint everything and pour the water properly...

I tried to to get some good tonal variation on the base. You can see the underside of the rock is bluer that the top side. I might spray some browner glazes over the sand to differentiate it more though.

Killer basework, my friend. The new one's way better than the original, and more fitting for your big nasty monster (looking great). Good luck with the water!

This forum's spam control seems to be going a little Skynet. Wouldn't let me post more than 4 pictures then took me away from the reply screen so I lost the message. Here goes again.

Base painting is finished aside from some Blood for the Blood God. Having a second crack at the water effects once I've given everything a good chance to dry.
