I'd say to tone down the shadows on the white. While pushing contrast is good in most cases,.. white is an exception. It's too bright and will never cast a black shadow upon itself. I suggest not taking the shadows past a light or medium grey at most. Sometimes, depending on the model, it can even work to shadow whites with light beiges,.. possibly working down towards tan. Again,.. just my two cents.

I'm glad you said that, I've been thinking along the same lines. I based the cloth with VGC Cold Grey and probably should have gone lighter with Stonewall Grey. Since I'm just experimenting with this one, I might give the shadows a blueish tint and the highlights a cream tint. Try out a bit of colour theory.

If it looks bad, it'll be another learning point.

    Cheers for the advice guys!

At first sight the white doesn't look bad at all, but then again if you're unhappy with it.... Have you thought about adding perhaps a teeny bit of beige or brown to the white's shadows? It might be the white-grey thing that's putting you off. In my experience, warmer whites are a bit easier to shade than cold whites.

Appreciate the kind words Digga. Meph, I went completely the opposite way with the shadows, but only because I didn't want the cloth to come across too beige. Results in a bit of a weird tone.
Waiting to do the edge highlights on the cloth until the armour and reverse side of the cloth is painted.

Got the left arm and bulk of the torso done as well. The whole thing is going to be deliberately very desaturated.
Middle fleur-de-lis needs more work, was trying for that really high sheen nmm and ended up looking more like stone.

That's incredible ! Love the subtle shading on the black and white cloth looks soft.

I might even go a shade lighter on the grey in the folds of the white. And maybe a warmer or more neutral grey. The blue tint is coming through super strong.

Hi Foxtail. Just saw the thread and the nice Imperial Knight you painted! I think these kits are one of the best GW models. They are really a joy to assemble and awarding to paint.
Will follow the thread and watch how the Sister Hospitaler turns out.

To give my piece of advice. Maybe you can try to add some browns in the white too? Subtle colour changes make the mini more interesting.
Look at some examples here: http://framingpainting.com/painting/...xis-22936.html
    or here: http://www.wikigallery.org/wiki/pain...gold-headscarf

But most of all: Have a great time painting!

Oh, cool, I can see where you're going with it. It's an almost sheer or even silk look.

Yeah Meph, that's uh ... exactly what I was going for

Eyeayen, Jike, thanks for the praise. It always means a lot.

I'll be leaving the white cloth until everything else is finished now, just so I don't get too wound up about it. I'll likely apply a few little light washes of beige to the shadows just to reduce the harsh blue, as per Webmonkey's and Jike's advice.

I'm really impressed by both the sculpt and your early progress on this mini. I look forward to seeing how it ends up and I'm confident you're going to do an excellent job!

The poor Sister Hospitaller has been neglected. After getting the nearside of the cloth painted red and the white of the nmm silver sketched in, she's been sat on my desk, looking miserable and unfinished. Since she's just a practice piece and I have a lot of other things to do (see below) I'm not too fussed about leaving her for a while.

Most of what I've been doing recently is this big beast. She's got the main basecoat on and the first draft of weathering, still a fair ways to go. Hoping to get her finished before the end of January because...

The chap who purchased my Imperial Knight has requested a fairly large commission. 1 large vehicle, 1 dreadnought, 3 cavalry sized models and many, many, space marines. All above-tabletop standard. Going to be an experiment in batch painting and airbrush maintenance.

Finally, my Triumvirate of the Imperium has turned up. St Celestine is going off to some lucky eBayer but I have Inquisitor Greyfax and Belisarius Cawl to get through.

I can't guarantee I'll be consistent in my updates, I'm going to end up flip-flopping between minis for a while. But I'll be updating here a lot more frequently.

The white cloth on the hospitaller is outstanding, and the armor is looking pretty good too. I'm excited to see your two Triumvirate figures!

Cheers Oct! I'm not pushing anything on the Inquisitor, but Belisarius I'm planning in really pushing myself as good as I can get. I mean, it's such a great mini, how could I not?

Brass rod and lots and lots of blue tack!

Dazzler, thanks for the praise dude. It means a lot! BaM, can you hold off a week or two on the inquisitor, I'm not sure my morale could take getting outdone by you while I'm still painting her (thanks for the comments on my gallery as well!)

I made a start on Inquisitor Resting-bitch-face. The silver's done for the backpack and one of the legs. I'm not used to trying to layer metallics but these seem to have turned out alright.
I've royally screwed up her face, so that part's getting dunked into a big mug of dettol tomorrow. Not sure how I could get the Hospitaller's face so right but this face so wrong.

Going to pray to the god of skin tones, our lord and saviour, Bailey.

One question though....when did the adeptis mechanics start allowing Skeksis? O.o
If you can name your paint colors blindfolded....you might be a brushlicker
