Default Blue steel NMM and basing help

Hi all...I have a very general question relating to NMM. Specifically, was wondering what recipe one would use to get the results of this sort of cold steel. Now, I have seen better examples than the pic I am going to provide, but now that I am looking I can't seem to find them. But this is close. It looks very realistic to me. I think it's just like normal steel, but with some dark blue glazed on? What do you think? I'll provide two pics. The first example look at the blades, and the example with the mount look at the steel on the mount itself.

Second part of question. Anyone know where I might find sea moss in the states? They sell it all PK Pro, but looking for a popular retailer in the states that might carry it. Any ideas here? Pic provided.

Yeah lots of bile glazes worked into that nmm, calgar blue, a deep navy like the old gw foundation blue nagaroth night I think and even the old gw enchanted blue come to mind looking at those pics.

For blue NMM steel, I personally make a black to white NMM first. Then I add some glaze of blue on top of it. But I have also done it with blue directly, mostly in wet blending.

Here my examples of the white+black adding glaze of blue after the NMM was done. check the sword at the back:

And here my example of directly blue in the mix during wet blending, all the blades (many many of them...), I used Scale 75 NMM kit:

The results are quite similar, now it only depends on personal preferences. Hope that helps... If you want more details don't hesitate.

While both of those pieces are fantastic, B, I am looking for a bit more subtle and I think darker than the examples you provided. I think what I am after is my normal black to white NMM steel, as seen on my currently project on my WIP, then a subtle dark blue right where the shadow and mid tone meet. So the glaze should cover part, but not all, of the mid tone and part, but not all, of the shadow.

I was thinking of trying Citadel's Cantor Blue. Meh, idk.

That blue isn't as nice as you may think, it's very greyed down and desaturated. Better for reflective black armour, but less vibrant than what you might want for NMM.

Yes, just glaze some darkish vibrant blue, like enchanted blue (old GW) or some darker turquoise. Maybe you can try mixing some of your colors to find the right fit. But it seems that glaze it is... highly diluted paint moist on the brush (most of the paint removed) will work perfectly.

Hmmm...but doesn't the blue in the juggernauts leg look less vibrant and pretty vague? What is the equivalent of enchanted blue for current citadel or VMC/VGC?

Best I can give you is VMC Medium Blue, which is quite an intense blue.
As for blue steel NMM I used VMC Intermediate Blue as the starting colour adding glazes of medium blue and burnt umber.

Thanks Dragonsreach. I took a look at some of the more recent blue steel NMM in your gallery. While gorgeous, not what I am after. But from the examples I provided and the consensus here , it sounds like I need a deep but vibrant blue to glaze over my normal steel NMM. I must own 10 different blue paints from Citadel and VMC, so one of them should do the trick. Will post results soon...

Here is another example of what I am after. Notice that there is a tutorial from Siren minis that teaches how to paint this sword, but the tutorial does not match the final result at all!!! Unfortunately...

I'm still pretty green with all this but what about that VMC Dark Sea Blue Komets loves to use?

    Too blue

A color I really like now that could be used is vac intermediate blue.
    Forgot, that it works again.
