Hey all, first post here in the forums. I was a long time member of The Warhammer Forum and ever since The Glass Cabinet became a bit of a ghost town I've found myself without a forum to call home. As a result, I've noticed that I am less motivated to paint and don't push myself to try new things like I used to. I've decided this year that I would really like to paint more regularly and improve my skills so I thought I would start posting my work here to get some motivation and hopefully improve as a painter.

With that said I always welcome helpful comments, critiques, suggestions etc... so please feel free to post constructive criticism. I'm currently juggling some Warmachine Khador, Guildball Blacksmiths, various Shadespire warbands and a few miscellaneous projects so I will bounce around between these. I'm hoping to add in some tutorials along the way if I am working on anything I think could be useful for people.

I just finished up Steelheart's champions yesterday so here they are.

These are beautiful. Great choice of colours, and the variety of textures is so nice to look at. A breath of fresh air in comparison to the typically flat gold approach

I’d echo everyone else, outstanding mini.

In an attempt to try and provide some constructive critique, maybe have a look at glazing some different tones on to Severin’s face. If you shut your eyes and wish really hard, BaM might turn up with a handy picture guide.

Thanks all! So Foxtail and Canny I'm trying to understand what you are suggesting and I want to see if I have it right. I have added one type of contrast in the face from light (the forehead) to dark (the chin) but you are suggesting that I add another level of contrast by varying from warm (the forehead) to cool tones (the chin)?

Hmm interesting, thanks for the tip I have never seen this before. Since skintones are something I have always struggled with, I'll definitely give this a shot.

For various reasons I lost track of updating my progress in this thread. After several months without painting I am once again trying to commit to painting more regularly and becoming better at painting armies. This means trying some new techniques, painting faster, and not sweating the details so I can keep up a decent standard but still have the possibility to paint a full army. I remembered how engaged and helpful this community was and really appreciated how people were willing to provide constructive feedback to help each other improve. Here is my latest piece, a Vulcan for my Crucible Guard army for Warmachine.

This is some gorgeous work! The gradients you achieve are amazingly smooth. Do you blend with a brush or do you use an airbrush?

My favorite is the vulcan, it has just the right blend of verdigris and rusty chipping going on.
And I agree with Dexter0015, the leather cloak on the dwarf is superb.

If I had to pick one thing to be critical about, it would be the fur on the first orc. It somehow looks too evenly shaded to me.
I would imagine fur (especially that an orc wears) to be matty, coarse and very dirty, so maybe more unevenly shaded?
Anyways, still a much better effect than I can achieve

Ahh yes I see what you mean gorb, perhaps using some different colored glazes or just varying the color a bit on some of the tufts would be a more convincing effect. That is a good idea I'll have to file away for the future.

Nice solid work I can see here, congrats!

What I would have done in other way:
- I would paint the inner edge of Angharad Brigthshield's shield to gold
- I would have added some more highlight on the edges of Severin Steelheart's cloak, and the cloak of the ork guy, giving it a more 3D look.
- That Khador robot is only washed on the steel parts, some grime/wash/spills/oil wash would give it more uniform look.
