Healing Heroes question!

Hello! I've been playing with some friends for the first time and we love the game, however up until today we noticed several things we had misundertood.

For instance, when does a hero heal? Is it only with potions and skills? Can we heal heroes when resting? I've looked though the manual and I noticed there's nothing that says you can willingly heal heroes, we thought REST would do, but we just realize it doesn't say anything. Please help!

You heal when you use a potion, or after an action that grants it. Never from resting.
