Thanks ekipage, I'm glad you like the biker chick and the orkneval (That's now his official name!).
Yeah, I think I'll try some payne's gray, I have the FW one. I might lighten it a tad with some white then thin it quite a bit with flow improver + matte medium, since I don't want the blue light darker, only less desatured. Thanks!

Really nice diorama! try glazing with a flesh tone to desaturate the blue.

I saw the dreadnought diorama on instagram, and it blow my mind. All of your projects are next level lately!

Great tip, thank you maxwin! Yes I've been reading up a lot on how to desaturate colors, and contrasting colors are certainly mentioned a lot, even though there are not a lot of articles around on desaturating colors that are already on a painting / figurine.
What I think I'll do is to making a thin contrasting color such as you suggest, but with a mid to high value, so that I don't darken the blues - I want the same values, just not so much vibrant blue...
Probably some of the same burnt sienna, mixed with a touch of white, heavily thinned down. This time I'll make a test piece first though

Thank you very much Dexter, that means a lot to me!

Haha! thank you John, I appreciate it!

    ..

Here are the pics of my finished orknevel. It still needs to be painted of course, but I only aimed to get the build finised during orctober.

    Another excellent kitbash my friend!

Now you have to paint it like this:

    Oh, give him a cape!

Haha! Yeah, with the white outfit on an ork, epic
I have a colorscheme in mind though, given that this is fairly heavily based on Kaneda's bike.

I also made these two Gretchins, the idea was to place them below the bike, cheering the ork on. Alas, they are a bit too tall and I think they would crowd the base too much.
Anyways, I still like them. I might tighten them up, make a mold and cast a couple of copies.

I really like the new additions, this is coming together nice!

I love the base work you did on this, it's really come together. Been sneaking on here to take a look here and there, and the bike came out pretty good. Watching Blackadder's work come along, I've been thinking about taking a stab at making vehicles. I've started to sculpt some of my own minis, but didn't really think about tackling vehicles. The orks seem like a rally good place to start.

Thanks man! Yes, there are heaps of ork "conversions" going around too, just grab some scale model - it doesn't even have to be the correct one and start ripping stuff out, glue stuff back in backwards or upside down, and add panels and rivets and you are done

    ..

Here is a bit of a basecoat on orkneval. The red is a mixture of crimson, metallic silver and gloss varnish, shaded with payne's grey from underneath.
I want to go for that candy apple look. I've got the same tint on his jacket, just minus the silver. Will try to go for a more desaturated green on his skin.

I'll have to take a better picture though, because this just looks *flat*.

And I did some more work on the dready dio, fine tuning the lights. I finally decided to just paint over the previous (too bright) blue.
With my luck, trying to desaturate it without a repaint would just have created a big mess (since I don't know what I'm doing).

    Then I refined the torches

which looked washed out, so I bumped the contrast

    Much better.

So they now look like this:

Overall I think it is going in the right direction.

Looking awesome, what are you using for the hoses?

Thanks maxwin. I made a tentacle roller out of those novelty lenticular cards that you get from souvenir shops, you know the magic-motion type things?
Basically, a photo or drawing printed on piece of plastic, when you move it back and forth the picture changes.

So the way these work is they have a very fine pattern of grooves on them. I pretty much took two pieces, glued them to some board, and roll the putty between them.
Here's a blog post I made ages ago to demonstrate:
    https://vigilantesculpting.blogspot....le-roller.html

In the mean time I've experimented with other ways to make the groove pattern. One way I've done is to use a long bolt to roll out some sculpey into the pattern I want.

    Then I make a mold

and cast two pieces of resin, which then form the plates between which I roll the putty.

The advantage of this is that I can make different sets of rollers using different bolts. The disadvantage is that there is more work involved in setting up the pattern and casting the plates.

Of course, if you are not cheapskate like me, you can always buy these things ready made
I personally haven't used these, but there are heaps of people out there that have:
    * The Tentacle maker tool box
    https://www.greenstuffindustries.com...2C_Wave_1.html
    * The Roll Maker
    http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/ro...e-machine.html

So what I then do is roll some greenstuff between the plates, this imprints the pattern on the roll of greenstuff, and you have a hose.
One more trick I have is to first roll the greenstuff around a piece of this wire. Then roll it through the tentacle box. Wait a couple of hours for the greenstuff to cure,
then you can always reposition the hose (the wire keeps the shape) and the greenstuff will be soft enough to bend for a day or two still.

    Hope that helps

Very clever. I used a comb to roll out tentacles, prior to getting my tentacle rollers. I find the comb still comes in handy, as it's a lot easier to get a tapering effect on the putty, if you're looking to achieve a longer taper. You just have to be careful with the pressure, so you don't ruin the effect as you roll it out. The torches look great, and really add an ominous feel to the diorama.

Very creative work. Watching the development of your stuff is exciting. I like the Akira bike style, nice reference!

Yeah, I've got some combs too, but I find the same thing you mention: when rolling over putty with a comb, there is nothing underneath that reinforces the shape, so I always mess it up.
I'm thinking of modifying the bottom plate by removing one of the side guides, then I can tilt or twist the top plate while rolling, to get different effects. Anyways, lots of experimentation to do.

Thanks Kallfa, I appreciate it very much!

Did some more work on orkneval: I realised he had a bit of a dumb look on his face, and while he is an ork, I'd like him to look more... menacing? lol
So I sculpted a fatter lower lip and some stark eyebrows, then gave him some color and a little logo. Still wip...
The rocketbike got some checkers, because dakka.

And I added some glowy effects to the various servo skulls on the dready dio:

I am enjoying the paint job on orkneval, it is in a good state so far.
Question for you though: should I add the stickers on the bike, like Kaneda's bike?
    Or leave it as is?
