    Default NW 50pts

    This is my current list.

NCU's............ Aemon and Bown ( though I have tried Joer as well )

Jon Snow in a unit of Vets

    4 x Sworn Brothers
    1 x Ranger Trackers

    2 x Watch Captains
1 x Dreadfort Captain ( to use the Points _)

My question is... Do I need the 2 Captains if I have Bowne to help card turnover

    My options are as follows

Drop 1 WC to make a Sworn Brothers into a 2nd Vet unit

Drop both WC and the Dreadfort Captian to add a unit of Bolton Cutthroats.

Option One...... I think is slightly more defensive.
    Option Two..... As more Offensive.
Option three.... Much more offensive. This gives me 8 trays of troops ( Including Ghosts )

    What do you think ?

Daimyo, I think the Nights Watch are by nature more of a defensive force and rather than double down on that you might want to look for ways to make them more aggressive. I've only had limited experience with fielding watch captains and I am not entirely sure I am comfortable in their playstyle yet. Have you fielded a variant of your proposed army yet? How did it fare?

I used the second option in 2 games yesterday both games against Lannisters. Feast for Crows and Clash of Kings. I won both fairly easily. The 2 nd Vet unit was gold with a Watch Captain and getting 2 cards.

Chase.... I'm suprised that you say that you think that NW are more of a defensive army. The mainstay of the army is Sworn Brothers, they hit on 3+ with Critical Blow and Sundering.

You know what, I think I misspoke. I think resiliant might be the word I was looking for. Especially with the veterans. Also, with the potential of Jon Snow and Aemon.

I would not bother with the captains at all if you are not running jeor as an ncu. Most vow require a different space on the tactics board.
If you are dead set on running 4x SB, (A good unit but easily played around, and I think 4 are not efficient enough. They die to easily if you are facing someone who knows how to deal with jon's cards.) then I would drop both captains and add another unit on the table.

Have you tried the scorpions? They are solid. This is the list I am using:

    Ranger Trackers(6)
    Sworn Brothers(6)
Sworn Brothers(6) with Roose Bolton – The Leech Lord(3)
    Builder Scorpion Crew(7)
    Builder Scorpion Crew(7)
    Veterans Of The Watch(8)
with Jon Snow - 998th Lord Commander (0)
    Ghost(0)

    Non-Combat Units
    Bowen Marsh - First Steward(3)
Aemon - Maester Of Castle Black(4)

I think 1 Scorpion is a maybe. I think 2 will have some redundancy once you in combat and start taking " blue on blue " casualties. Also I think anyone that has played against Scorpions should be able to deal with them with thier Cavalry staying just outside 12" and then charge them after the free manouever.

Sure 1 works as well. If you keep it in the center of the table, cavalry has to chew through your flankers or frontline first... Also he enables healing on the spot since tge best way to deal with nightwatch healing is to never have another unit make morale tests besides the one you want to kill. With the scorpion you can just shoot in cc of jon and veterans to heal any other unit on a whim.

That slow healing down a bit but Aemon carries most of the load. I like Joer as an NCU but have stopped using him as he can only help 1 unit at a time. I've gone back to using Bowen to help cycle thourgh the Tactics deck.

I don't have access to scorpions yet, so can't attest to them. At 8 pts, I have not been impressed by veterans. If watch captains were 1 pt, they'd be worth it. Ranger trackers are ok, but I feel sworn brothers are just better at 6 pts. I feel Bowen is usually overkill, unless there's a huge fight over the letter zone or if you can only afford 3 pts on a second NCU. Also, if you're running any version of Jon Snow, don't forget about ghost (he's free )

I played the list below in a 50 pt 1v1 - "Game of Thrones" scenario game vs a Lannister list. It worked very, very well. Tips and list below.

    * This is meant to be an attrition list. Small gains over the first couple of rounds can set you up for big turns 4-6.

    * Triple NCU lets you make incremental gains through extreme tactics board control with Littlefinger and Varys. Littlefinger can help with what vow zones you need, while cheesing out double healing or panic opportunities, which helps this list a lot. Triple NCU also lets you hold your combat activations until later in the round, which can prevent you from getting in bad charge situations or getting double attacked through tactics board or cards. Varys helps deal with issues like Cersei.

    * Aemon, Jon Snow (order), and Snow's tactic cards can heal up wounded units, and sworn brothers sundering and critical blows can dish out more damage then you'll take.

    * The Boltons in this list can help with unit disadvantage, as panic tests can be deadly for the opponent (especially with the Free Folk coming). Who cares if you kill off Theon when you have so much healing.

    * The Flayed Men can hold an objective or other unit off on their own, so group your other units together and let the Flayed Men do their thing. With our healing capabilities, the Flayed Men are incredibly hard to destroy.

    Commander - Jon Snow

    Combat Units (38 pts total)
    1. Sworn Brothers - 6 pts
    +Jon Snow (C)

    2. Ghost - 0 pts

    3. Sworn Brothers - 9 pts
    +Ramsey Snow
    ++ Theon Greyjoy

    4. Sworn Brothers - 7 pts
    +Dreadfort Captain

    5. Sworn Brothers - 6 pts

    6. House Bolton Flayed Men - 10 pts

    Non-Combat Units (12 pts total)
    Aemon - 4 pts
    Lord Varys - 4 pts
    Petyr Baelish - 4 pts

I think the watch Captains are solid!

Joer Mormont influencing a unit of Sworn Brothers with 2 vows dials them up to 11.

In 50 points I run 2 units of Sworn Brothers with Watch Captains and 3 NCU's to control most of the songs.

I am struggling with Watch Vets also. I am hoping a new attachment helps a bit with them in the hero box coming up. Right now I would rather take 3x Sworn Brothers with 2 Watch Captains vs 2x Sworn Brothers and Vets almost always.
