Default Back to it! Be brutal.

Hi everyone, after a little break from painting, I am back and pushing myself to try new techniques.

On the mini below, done in 3 hours in 1 evening, I did the following new techniques (for me anyways):

    - Zenithal priming
    - Glazing (nothing but glazes)
    - NMM
    - Tons of work on the face

I honestly think it's my best work so far, really happy with it

Just need to re-work the eyes a bit.

As you say a massive improvement over the two years.
On the skin, the 'step' between layers is harsh, focus on smoother blending to get a nice event graduation.

Thank you for asking but I don't do commissions.

Man, 3 hours; that looks stellar to me. The improvement from your older work, is certainly noticeable.

Keep 'em coming, I'd like to see more of what you can do (specially if only 3 hours gets something as good as that out of you)!

thanks guys! I have entire armies to paint for AoS, WH40K, plus tons of board game minis as well (I think I have over 300 minis to paint and build).

I'll keep practicing on smoother blends, but on such small surfaces like the skin its really difficult for me, I'm not sure I have the right technique for it.

What color should I do the eyes to make em pop?
What color to push highlights on face without making him look like a clown?
What color should I do the base?

    Thanks!

I like this little chaos sorcerer, skin blending looks smoother than your previous mini (which looks already pretty nice to me as for the time you spent on).
For the eyes I would go with something yellow/orange OR green to represent kind of an interior fire if you know what i mean.
To continue highlighting the skin i'll keep using white.
For the base, why not try to create a lava feeling?
On the metal side though, I would add some rust to it, looks too clean to me for a chaos guy.

I like the metals as is except the silver end of the spear (?) which appears too monochromatic.

I agree that a yellow would look good on the eyes. This is a nice improvemnt for you. Nice!

Had a few minutes to work on it last night, not happy with the yellow eyes but its so small making a nice dot is difficult.

Couldn't get a lava base to work either (I didn't sculpt any lava flows before so it would look odd), so just went with a rocky one, not finished either.

First of all, nice improvements on the deamon highlights, and the eyes looks fine to mee.

As for the "new" minis, I love the rider ont he little dragon (I recognize the GW mini but don't know how it is called), I think the color scheme works well and the transitions between colors are pretty nice.

The big guy is nice too, though the overall figure looks a bit dim to me, maybe it's the lights or maybe it's need mo contrasts (I struggle a lot on this part of painting).

For the genestealer, I tend to prefere a more light/rotten flesh look, but your approch make me think of Alien, which is intersting too.

Nice work, I look forward to see more.

Thanks! The alien style nids were a quick paint job for my space hulk box and lost patrol, i wanted an alien like look.

The big green dude does lack contrast on the skin, i need to work on that for my next 3 GUO.

I had fun wet blending the stormcast dude and trying to push contrast further as well.

here are some other pics of decent stuff i did:

Nice work. I really like your Plague trooper. Only critique I would have is the mold line on Jaba running right under his mouth and down his tail wasn't cleaned, but still nice paint on the figure.

So i pulled the trigger on an getting an airbrush this weekend (ahhaha) and I got an Iwata Eclipse HCS and a Revel compressor (though I had to go buy an adapter for the hose and compressor to connect).

I also got Black, Grey and White primer, as well as a flow improver, a spray booth, some latex gloves and a filter mask, and finally a thing where I can empty / clean my airbrush and hold it.

I started using it this weekend and learned a lot about using it, cleaning it, unclogging it, correct paint mixing, etc.

Here is some of the stuff I did just this weekend, from basecoat to almost finished:

    Attachment 72958 Attachment 72959 Attachment 72960 Attachment 72961 Attachment 72962 Attachment 72963 Attachment 72964

Still learning but I like the results so far.
