Default Where is a solid place to manufacture my miniatures? (pics inside)

Hey there coolmini peeps. It’s been a while.

A few of you may remember me as the person that sculpted, manufactured and painted the Lord of Pestilence a while back. About 19 of you are lucky to have that miniature, as I was asked to stop producing and selling it.

    Here is a pic: http://www.coolminiornot.com/88114
    http://www.coolminiornot.com/88635

I have very recently completed a few new miniatures in green form. They are quite big, and in my opinion, better then my Lord of Pestilence.

I am writing here to find out if any of you could recommend a manufacturer for these new minis? I can cast in resin, and I like resin casting, but it is such a time consuming process, and Id rather be sculpting then pouring.

I would rather a resin miniature manufacturer, but I suppose metal could be okay if it was cost effective? Is getting my minis made overseas even a possibility?

Thanks for any help you may have. I\'ll check back often.

    I have to ask....
Why in the world were you asked to stop producing and selling it?
    By who?
And beyond that... why did you stop?

Of course, you don\'t have to answer...

    I\'m just nosy.

Because Games Worstshop has the copyrights to the words \'Lord\' and \'Pestilence\'. Anyone using those words without their permission will be killed by GW assassins. They also own the rights to - a, the, at, of, and, we, he, she, they, etc... so don\'t plan on speaking or typing anything without getting in trouble, those assassin nerds can be rather deadly with their spitballs and paper aeroplanes of death. ;)

You\'re behind the times Marcus. They use expired codexes (codices?) to bludgeon you into submission, before stuffing oop squats into your mouth until you choke.

Occasionally they kidnap you, and through a slow process involving sensory and sleep deprivation brainwash you. You wake up one day wearing a red shirt, living in a cupboard in a mall, and start every (scripted) conversation by asking \"What game do you play?\"

    Hi,

I already send a reply through novice sculptor but to add to it:

For the US I\'d go for Fortress. In Europe I\'d say Historex and TFT. These all have a lot of exprience at doing resin and they all have some familiarity with both green stuff and Fimo (and should be able to handle a mix of them too). Depending on the size of the other figure you could even consider the garage kit casters.

You can do it in metal but if so then you\'ll have to do some serious cutting to make it casteable. Casting larger volumes in resin is less of a problem than doing this in metal. You can have a look at the demons of Heresy miniatures to get an idea how the figure needs to be split up:http://www.heresyminiatures.com

By the way, if you need more info you can PM me if you like.

    Bye, Ming-Hua

Not too far from the truth ;)

It probably has something to do with 2 things:

    1) You called it a Deamon Prince which is trademarked by GW (see the inside of Chaos Codex) which means that you were making money off there trademark. A legal no no.

2)It is sculpted very reminisant of GW imagery, (Nurgle Space Marines) Which is IP that GW always has and will defend. (as is there right)

i think you were pushing it a bit with the name there. mind you it\'s silly how gw can own the copyright to \'lord\' and \'pestilence\'. scott (spacemunkie) has offered to cast stuff up in the past. try pm ing him

Unless my reading comprehension sucks today, Sophia is NOT looking to make new casts of the Lord of Pestilence.

Wisely so, in my opinion, since it clearly infringes on GW\'s copyright. It clearly borrows significant design elements from Space Marine/Terminator armour - the shoulder pads, the overlapping plates on the ass, the armour style on the arms and legs. Also the split \"hoof\" feet are found on some Nurgle minis I think.

GW are of course evil and heavy-handed but in this case, they are legally justified, and not because they\'ve trademarked the words \"lord\" and \"pestilence\" :)

Sophia, did you already show the people here what the other sculpt is? If not, you should. They\'ll like it. :)

Don\'t lie! They own the rights to everything! They\'re even in the process of suing the US military for using the terms \'Space\' and \'Marines\'. Nasa is going to have to change their monicker, and the new TV ad will say The few... the proud... the guys who\'re slighty tougher then the infantry\" ;)

    lol:bouncy::flip:

I was just joking the first time NSA, as I was this time. It just seems ridiculus to me for a company to be able to claim the rights to \'words\'. Now, using their imagery is another matter entirely...

Yeah, but that whole issue was cleared up a while back wasn\'t it? I remember we all chatted about it till we were red in the face :D

What we want to see now is the new pieces that were in the pipeline...how are they looking Sophia?

I have no interest in casting large multi-part models at the moment!

My arse has enough pains in it at the moment.

    (Stop that tittering Rev.....:D)

As for GW.... Set of ****s!

This miniature was sculpted by Jeremy, my new partner. I actually sculpted the base (there is a square one too) and am painting this display model.

I will be taking the real photography for this mini next week, and I will post it as soon as it is ready to ship. All pricing information will be availible then.

Special thanks to Jeremy for making this miniature really special. I also have a fun mini in the pipeline as well, that I hope to be releasing at the same time... but I am going to let that one stay a suprise!
