haha, uber, you scare me, i was just going to post somthing about golds/bronze instead of so much silver when i just read your post...gotta be somthing they put in the water in art classes....
I Lol\'ed out loud when I saw the scale picture. I\'d expect the thing to be smaller but that is one massive thing.
Say uhm... could you just .. send it over to me.. so I .. uhm can, inspect the thing for any ... ahm... things. I mean.. inspect it for any weird things on it.. Uhm... you will right?
i have gotten a few people apologizing to me and i was seriously not upset one bit. anyhow, i took out the blue yet again. i know i just put a whole schpeal about using blue. but it will be added later on. i spent the majority of the morning adding the metal bits and bobs with different colors. then badab black the entire thing on one side which took 1 1/2 pots of the stuff. thats just one side kids. :lol.... anyhow after that i figured i would take a pic and show you where i am at right now. the other side is next to be worked on. i will start with yellows and browns, then add the metals, and then go over it all again with the washing. as for the black areas now. i plan on doing hazard striping and black and white checkers with those areas to break up the yellow monotony. i personally like how its turning out and am wondering what the rest of you think of it. so please feel free to add some advice as i continue to work on this beast. rock on all.
got another update finally. started working on the metals on the one side. couldnt bring myself to paint more browns and yellows for a few days....so its on to metallics. some closeups for you guys. i still have to do some washes on some of those areas and clean up a few areas i caught after photographing but im pretty happy with it.
I still think you're braver than a very brave (and maybe slightly daft) brave thing for even taking this on.
It's looking excellent given the sheer magnitude. I find often on large models that too many fiddly details make the overall look very disjointed and chaotic, but so far it has a solid consistent feel to it.
Really looking forward to following the progress, and your possible (well, likely) descent into madness as a result!
got some more done this week. i have just decided to do one side at a time. ive started working on some of the finer details and weathering. i have most of the front foot done...but need to add some mig pigments for some rust. i decided to add some of my characteristic red and started on some of the bloos. im pretty happy with the placement of it and especially the hazard stripes on the big gun. although im still not sure if i should ad some devlan mud to dirty it up a bit like the small hazard striping on the foot guard. of course i still have lots to do and i tried a stripe on the neck but might change the positioning of it.
morfangdakka: need to know what you think and if there is anything you want changed.
Nice one Uber, keep it up, she's coming along lovely. I agree that the big gun stripes need a touch of dulling, a bit too "computer" clean at the moment. Cheers, B.
damn, i can´t believe i haven´t posted in this thread ´til now- damn you college
so first of all - It looks lke the bastard offspring of an imperial AT-AT and a T-Rex imagined by a loony Orcboy - with other words: AWESOME!
please give the guy who built it my best regards and tell him he did a bloody brilliant job.
so as far as critic goes: The brass, the brown an yellow look great.
The silver parts definetly need some rusting. I made good experiences with a mix of GW chestnut ink and GW scorpion green - the ressult is, depending on the ratio, a yellow-orange-brown metal , which should go nicely with the brown and brass,
Dull the red and especially the blue. Not sure how ( never had to do it myself) but Sepia comes to mind - mixed with blue it gives some really nice green -brownish tones, however i´m not sure how it will look at that beasty.
the yellow/black stripes on teh flank turret look fine the way they are, i wouldn´t change them
well that´s all from my side for now , good luck

trust me ladz i didnt forget about it. i have been working tirelessly on it and have come up with this. i managed to get a fair amount done and am incredibly happy with the stripes and the walkway that leads inside. i've been struggling with some colors but i am still pretty happy with how it has turned out. let me know what you think.
p.s. sorry bout' the last pic. its a bit blurry so i made it smaller to see.
wow, thats fantastic. i go crazy when i have to paint a mini on a 60mm base. thats just crazy. i like it a lot, ut i have a few suggestions:
1) be more a-symmetrical with your weathering. "target wear points" more heavily than other areas. e.g. corners of plates, tips of teeth, and perhaps even some rotational contact wear points on areas like the gun sponsons.
2)work on both sides more concurrently, to ensure consistency. once i painted a big mini one side at a time, and while i used the same colors and techniques each side ended up with noticeable compositional differences.
cant wait to see more. i sure hope you finish before you go insane.

funnymouth: i took your advice and am starting to show wear more on edges and the round spots on the gun muzzles. thanks for the advice.
at all the others thanks so much for the advice.... and kind words its greatly appreciated.
so i managed to get more down. started up the verdigris and would say I am officially halfway done. I am going to work on the leg on the right and then move onto the other side. some people have expressed that I work on both sides at one time, but I have written down and made my mixes in large amounts and already have them off to the side before I start painting the other side. I really do think this will be done by December the 15th or within a few days of that. Its been a lot of fun and I am particularly happy with the use of blues and reds. I know some people say to bring the blues down a bit but i think it really brings the piece life. let me know what you think.
uber
p.s. yes i know the top of the smoke stack needs some black for soot.

Nice work John.
Serious Kudos for painting that beast, as well as that.
