Hi Chrome, I think I may have managed to propose something that's not actually possible there, unfortunately I just wonder if there's a way to convey the spirit of the wolf without resorting to sculpting elements of it?

There is the painting a horizon reflection in armour technique... http://www.coolminiornot.com/213417

And the screaming souls design...
can't find a link, I must have the name wrong, red Space Marines with tiny orange ghost faces painted all over the armour so that from a distance it looks like a patterned carpet but up close you can see all the little lost souls trapped in the suit? Help someone

So if you painted the marine in SW Grey NMM could you then work in a wolf spirit design over it as per the reflection style? Either as a single wolf/wolfs head or as lots of little wolves/wolves heads all powering on the soldier in a spiritual fashion? The reflection technique conveying that they're ghostly spirits around the marine rather than designs painted onto his armour.

Cheers, B.

PS I'm just wondering about cutting a SW Icon out of card & playing with some plastic minis to see how the shadows cast & what sort of pose would be required to achieve the wolf head shadow. Might not need the card actually, hmmmm. I'll see if I can think through the steps required while I daub my f.elf.

I see you have more confidence in my painting skills than I ever will.

And here, a little something I thought up with Freakinacage's feedback and ideas in mind:

Well, the plan is to sculpt as much as possible. might have to freehand the runes but then again, they're not very demanding sculpt-wise, it's just a matter of small enough tools. XD

Right now I think I'm leaning towards the Freak-inspired version of the armor and perhaps try implementing something from BPI's ambiance-ideas... (they sound too cool to not at least try. )

I'll try to see if I can come up with something using Tercha's 'Muscle armor' as well, might be able to merge it with the latest concept somehow

i think the best option would be to carve rather than sculpt. use a hard curing putty (ie milliput or magic sculp) and then wait till its cured before scoring with something sharp

That newest sketch is very nice Chrome, lots of painting opportunities available in terms of the different effects that can be pushed (decorative metallic with gems / battle worn relief armour / play up the overall wolf face). Fun stuff Cheers, B.

You could always steal Scibor's 'stamp making' sculpting. And then cast them

I like the drawing. Would be a paint to sculpt I guess..

The second concept is actually easier to sculpt than the first and I've done things like that before so I'm not worried.

And I've always found scibor's way to do it a bit like cheating. It is a great way to do it and it gets wonderful results but it isn't quite 'sculpting' to me.
