Default 40k Squats making a come back?

Just did a quick flick through the GW website and saw that they have a new WD subscription only model. The thumbnails gave the impression of it being a new fantasy dwarf engineer/ lord whatever... which seemed to fit as the last sub mini was a 40k one.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the close up... my god ... that looks remarkably like a new squat figure. Is it just a one off fun model or is this a suggestion of things to come? I think you can buy it separately as well.

Here he is.

I thought the squats were coming back as well when I saw this the other day.

I didn't know you could buy the mini seperately though I thought it was just for the subscription in a box thingy???

It's this years subscription offer, existing subscribers can purchase it separately if it's the same as previous years. The internet seems to be full of rumours about wether or not the Squats are going to be a brand new army or not. I recal reading somewhere that GW were going to release a new army so wouldn't be surprised if this model was created to muddy the waters

Sounds about right I guess despite them saying that the squats will never be making a come back...would be nice to see some of the squat vehicles produced in plastic though

Guys correct me if i´m wrong , but didn´t GW erase the Squats from the official background?

As far as i read; the demiurgs from Battlefleet Gothic ( they´re allies of the tau with a massive cruiser) are actually the "Squat replacement" and that there is no plan in the foreseeable future to make the Demiurgs into a 40k army

oh, and the mini is quite nice, to bad it´s limited

I think this is a one-off piece. I don't have the link at hand, but Jervis Johnson explained pretty definitively that the Squats are gone. The effort that GW has gone to over the years to get them out of the fluff also tells me that they don't want them around.

Well yes and no on being removed from the fluff.. Their homeworld is destroyed and they are thought to be wiped out. But still there are some stray squats appearing in new novels there and then. GW can do whatever they want but the return of the squats have been a running joke for the last... 15 years(?). And I presume this is just another chapter to that joke rather then that they will actually reappear.

Sure it looks like a scifi dwarf, but it does NOT look like a Squat.

I'm sure that this is just another variant of the "white dwarf". It's a one of thing, prob. because 40k people wanted soemthing (or were perceived to want) that tied in with their monthly magazine. Squats aren't coming back.

They have done so much to eradicate the Squats there is no way they would try to revive them.

Squats won't be back because it was a gimmicky army and didn't sell as much as it needed to.
Asking to bring them back is bit of a tall order.

I hope that didn't take long for you to think up. As far as funny jokes go, that one fell short.

There were rumours floating around that Demiurgs would be making a comeback as a slave race in the new Tau book. New Demiurg models were done for rogue trader around the same time the rumour started and I haven't seen anyone expand upon it since then.

Doesn't look like and old Squat... maybe its the new face of Squatdom. They did it with Orks a while back.

Anyway probably a one off piece. The X6 on the back was niggling me for a while and then I realised that it's a reference to the White Dwarfs friend Bugman, it's his 6X beer thats powering the suit

It looks like its just going to be a one of piece for sure.

Its just the White Dwarf making a 40k appearence. It's a nice model like everyone has said its a shame that its subscription only as I dont really fancy paying for a subscription just to get it.

Still nice and characterful though, GW need to do more pieces orientated just for the painter

Yeah but Chaos Dwarfs have never left the Fantasy fluff. They're still around, even some models manning the Chaos Hellcannon.

Sqauts aren't coming back anymore than alien "Grey's" will be in 40k. It's just a fig for sure.

Though I do want to see what they do with the Chaos Dwarfs.

Chaos Dwarves are rumoured to be being done by ForgeWorld in the same way as they have done Red Scorpions for 40k - now how accurate that information is, I can't guess.

Since it's available to mail order by subscribers only, see if you can talk some nice person to mail order one for you.
Just mail ordered a couple for myself yesterday otherwise I'd help out.

It's an appalling model and indicative of what is wrong with GW at the moment. Its poorly proportioned and cartoon-like. Now I know there are some people (perhaps even many people) that like that. But I don't!

As to the squats returning... I {Insert your favourite overused expletive here} hope not.

I'm a massive Dwarf fan and would love to see a well conceived dwarf race in sci-fi. The squats were NOT that. They were a ridiculous caricature, easy rider/hells angel comedy race. GW were right to get rid of them and should not bring them back. I get my sci-fi dwarf kicks from the rather awesome Hasslefree Grymn - if you're looking for dwarfs in space i cannot recommend these highly enough!!

At the moment GW have demonstrated that they can't actually do Dwarfs in WHFB well. These too have become rotund no-kneed comic impressions of what should be a noble, proud, grim and dour race. I'd recommend the Vendel dwarfs for fantasy or the old Grenadier Dwarfs line now available from Mirliton in Italy.

Right. I'm off to find another fence to sit on.
