Default Looking for starfighters

I'm looking for miniatures of starfighters in the scale of TIE-fighters or Mk. I Viper, i.e. one or two seated craft used in space in a fighter role.

It doesn't have to be Star Wars or Galactica, but that wouldn't hurt either. The figures should be about the size of "normal" models (the 28 mm kind), not too big and not too small - about the size of a €2 coin. If I had to choose, I'd rather choose smaller (thumb size) than bigger (WH40k vehicles).

Can you think of a company that would make such things? I'm interested in any craft as long as it's a) starfighter and b) about the correct size.

Revell have "clip together" kits of Starwars Starfighters.
You could use those or convert/modify them.

Thanks for the tip!

At a length of about 200 millimetres they're a bit big, however.

Don't know if they still get made but there was a game called "Silent Death" that was a space combat fighter game. They had a range of mini's. Also maybe there's some "Aerotech" fighters kicking around? Both of those were in the size yuo're after.

There was (is?) a Babylon 5 space combat game out there, and some of the starfuries might work for you.

Aerotech miniatures are of the correct size and there's lots of variety. Some of the ships slightly 80s looking (heavy metal cast and thick block shapes). I'm not sure if that's an advantage or a disadvantage.

The Silent Death boxed set (still available from ICE, it seems) contains no less than 48 plastic ships... Boardgamegeek's pictures had some TIE-fighters in them too. I'll have to find out more about the boxed set.

But oh yes, those Starfuries are spot on! Just the correct size and shape.

I'll look into these. Thanks for the help!

When you say they "should be the size of 'normal size models - 28mm'", do you mean that you want to use them with 28mm figures; that they have 28mm pilots, or do you want them to be 28mm in size?

Those Revell Star Wars jobbies are much smaller than 28mm. They're 1/72ish and 28mm is around 1/40-something. Might be ok if you want a snotling piloting it....

You mean Battlefleet Gothic (or whatever it's called) scale don't you? This would be 1/(insert huge figure here...).

Lots of companies around. Here's a good starting point:

Thanks for that link! I've been a bit curious about lots of sci-fi models, but hadn't the time to search. Sadly, a lot of those links look to be to defunct web sites, but still worth the ones that are still active.

Yeah, I understand my original post must've been misleading. What I meant is that I wanted starfighters that stand on medium-sized bases at about the same height as 28 mm miniatures.

I did not intend to fit 28 mm miniatures inside the ships. All I need are the ships. Sorry for my confusing post.

Thanks for the SCN link. Pretty amazing models there! Now I'm spoiled for choice... One of the telling factors may be which company offers me the most reliable looking site with trustworthy payment options.

I think I fell in love with those Starfuries, but there are several interesting looking fighters in the other links too. I also saw a very nice looking "Warbird" on one of the sites... I think it was (ex) Ral Partha.

Nice!
