Default A DKoK dude

I did this guy up for a local comp between a bunch of us who decided to paint up something from Forge World. I snapped the feet off my DKoK mounted Commissar, so decided to do this guy as a quick entry. Not much chance with this guy competing against demon princes and stuff, but fun still. I'm trying to get more contrast in my painting, and on places like the jacket it goes from black up to space wolves grey, so I hope the contrast is "getting there". I've decided to paint the way I normally would, then coem back a day later and add another layer or two of highlights. I think that helped a little. Please fire away any comments or crit's. Still getting super good advice from everyone, so thanks!

-Scott

There's bigger pic's on the link above. Photobucket just re-sizes them I guess.

Really like this little guy. You did a good job for the painting, good contrast. I also like the base. The only thing I don't like are the shoulders, I think they too much look like the clothes.

Looks pretty cool.

I think the gloves lack a bit in the mid tone as a t the moment it is hard to tell if they are meant to be brown or red. The boos don't look like they are highlighted. And I still think you could push the highlights.

He's looking through one of those wierdo things for triangulating trajectories 'n stuff. He's part of an Artillery crew. I thought I could use him for the artillery master guy. In game terms, some kind fo advisor that lets you re-roll scatter's I think?

Thanks for looking guys! Good comments about dirtying the dude up some. And I'll push the highlights more next time. Thanks!

Hes an artillery spotter.

Id muddy up his boots and the base some.. some Mig pigments mixed with gloss acrylic gel would do a nice job at that.

Looking good though.

BTW Im starting on more trench bases and a whole trench system soon..

It's supposed to be a rangefinder, a spotter would use binoculars (in this millenium anyway)

I love these guys, so WW1. As was said just muddy up his feet and maybe a bit on his cost, but not too much, don't make it look caked. It will distract from the rest of the figure which look great.
He is an artillery rangefinder, each lens on each side projects a split image( top and bottom). He will side each image past each other until they match. Through triangulation you can calculate the distance. Sorry for the useless trivia.

Default range finder

thats a"coolmini" dont see stuff like that everyday.can the lense tubes be moved i think they would work better from a trench if they were angled up stops you getting your head blown off too lol

they used to come as periscopic as well as adjustable
with laser and microwave rangfinders the norm now things really have gone backwards

I like him. I would say the next step is to think more about where the light is falling on the mini, so highlight the areas lit more, rather than just the raised areas.
