Default Toughguy Mini Concept Green

http://coolminiornot.com/236247

Well, I was disappointed with myself over the last three concept greens of my self portrait. I listened to my friends and they told me that each green was becoming less dynamic and was "boring". So I took their advice when they said I should do a self-portrait of one of my fitness photo shoots instead of making another bland "Fitness Instructor" mini.

So I made another mini. Here is the results. I am working on 3 alternate left hands to be caste with it (Holding a bat, a sledgehammer, and a chain). To make the alternate hands fit better I am going to add a sports watch to the left wrist.

So... Give me advice. I know I need to clean up some of the excess procreate.

Also, can anybody recommend a professional mold-maker/pewter casting service. Originally I was thinking of making a silicone mold and casting from resin but I want to know the cost of going with a professional (so I can't screw it up).

It is a great start there! But I think you should smooth out the lines between the torso musculature. To me, it looks like you made a body with the right shape and then just lined the muscles with a sculpting tool. If you follow those lines with the broad side of a less sharp tool you will get more 'natural' shapes on them. Oh, and I think you should exaggerate slightly on the chest muscles, not much mind you, just to make them 'pop' a bit more. Other than that I think all you need is to keep sculpting. This has the potential to be really great.

Thanks for the advice. I've started smoothing out the lines. I'll post some pics once I finish the "repairs". I've done a search and have found a few tutorials on sculpting musculature but many of those tutorials are for exaggerated warhammer conan-esque muscles. Are there any tutorials around that deal more with realistic musculature?

The main thing for me is to remain as close to reality as possible, even in the body proportions since this is a signature mini for me. So far, everything is within ~1/4mm to scale so I'm happy with that. I think actually adding the hat was a good choice since it allows the mini to be more "hero generic" rather than having to look at my ugly mug...lol

Also, I'm still wondering if anyone has dealt with any casting and mold making services? I've looked around on the web and found quite a few, but I rather here a few reviews before i commit to a specific company.

BTW: the lighting for these pics sucked and it made the lines a bit exaggerated compared to real life. They aren't as rough as they seem in the pics. I'll get my lighting set up better next time.

aye but make sure they look right or they look plain wrong. better to have to paint the nipples on that say 'damn that dude has freaky nips!'

if you look at french tuts, and 54mm tuts, they show more realistic musculature. the best one i have seen is in the ravage sculpting magazine. it's all in french but tbh the pictures explain enough

Definitely add nipples, but as they've said, be careful. It is extremely easy to have them look like they should belong to a mom of triplet toddlers...

OK, so I cleaned up the model. I smoothed out the edges between the muscles so that the blended more naturally. My lighting still sucks so.... yeah...

Oh yeah, also added nipples. luckily they came out right.

Almost done with the hand variants. Added a sports watch to the left arm so that the hand variants can be switched out smoothly.
