I was waiting for someone to do the big boar, and i think you did a really good job. The metal looks good to me, so does the face and the fists, however when i look at the left leg in the upper picture, the shadow looks too abrupt, there´s simply a medium color missing - besides that , as i said nice job, it looks greasy and dirty , just as a giant boar should.

Same goes for the dwarf, great job with the face and the helmet, my only critic would be, that the coat/mantle could need some addtitional highlighting.

oh and btw,"Shogun of Saskatchewan" - awesome. now I really need to come up with something good...

Well I'm really liking the way you've done the Boar Guy, although I think I would have added some Rust/Oxidisation effects on the armour.
Has a great Rushing into a Charge posture, nicely captured.

But the Scibor Dwarf.
Going to be really honest here, other than the red which looks good, the rest seems like backward step in your painting.
Ok I'll admit that I don't think much of it as a sculpture(*), but it seems to me as if it didn't inspire you to any flair or attempt to make a silk purse out of sows ear. The use of a single, somewhat dull colour, has drained the mini making it look drab, dark and uninteresting.
Ok I'll grant that the subject of a Chaos Dwarf doesn't lend itself towards a Bright & Shiny colour scheme, but using the red you used in the hat within the main body colour, I think would have given it a far better and stronger look.

(* Reason I don't like the sulpture is that it looks to me like a pastiche of a Hassidic Jew. )

Piggy gets a big thumbs up from me. Only thing I'd do to it would be to glaze that armour up with some more rusty orange browns and the green/turquoise that's already in there.

The boar looks cool. Really nice and dynamic pose.
The scibor miniature looks alright to me Just clean highlights and very neatly painted. But I'm missing anythign truly special on both to be honest.

DR- Fair Enough! The dwarf was a quickie, and I tried something new on the jacket. I wanted to have a bit of a red leather sheen, so I tried painting it in layers from black, cadmium red, then about three layers of the normal browns I use over top. I don't think it worked at all. I got a couple more and I think I would go for more fo the style of red on the hat onto the jacket. But I don't disagree with your point about the paitning of it. Much appreciated, I'll try to impress you on the next one I do from that range.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Hi Scott, nice work on the boar dude, I must show the Blood Bowl playing chap I work with these pics. Were you commissioned to do a full team or was it just this chap?

My feelings on the dwarf have been covered already! But good on you for trying new approaches, no sense sitting in the safe zone

Keep it up, cheers, B.

Yep, I like the boar, the contrast between the flesh colours and the metals is great, but see above to what spacemonkey said about glazing some wear/rust on to them, it'll also give the metals some more depth.
The dwarf doesn't do anything for me at all, it's competently painted but that's all.

Pig is good, dwarf... well, the rest of the crowd have said it already. What you need pigwise is more color variation pretty much everywhere. Think of how you paint shadows on skin. Yours are essentially a darker version of you midtone. How about adding green, blue or purple there (or all three depending on how deep the shadow is). Start adding more details not present on sculpt. How about bloody knuckles?

Same with the metal. You are trying for verdigris but, to my taste you are too tentative. If you want it to be oxidized add more and brighter. The nice thing about painting metal is that metal can take a lot of color that do not irritate viewer and only enhance "metallic" appearance. Again try for more colors. Make shadows deeper. If you want it to be bluish make shadows black blue (mix of chaos black and hawk turquoise is quite good for this).

Make deeper shadows on tusks, right now they are somewhat flat (possibly bleached out on a picture)

Really appreciate the tips and encouragement. Much obliged.

As for the dwarf... I got a couple more to paint. I've heard the though of doing the jacket in the red of the hat and I might give that a go. Any other thoughts to make a mini like that sort of stand out a little more? Love to hear them. So far things I've heard that I agree with...

-Do more with the jacket
-Gun needs work (Stock, metals and the barrel skull thingy is too bland)
-Base could go for "more"

Any other crit's? Actually looking at that, it's pretty much every part of the model except the face and the hat, so I guess that's plenty!

As for the boar, he's a privateer press hordes fig. Looking at him he'd be great for blood bowl, except he's mounted on a 50mm round base and even re-positioning him he's a struggle to keep upright. I don't know that he'd be much use for blood bowl, though that is a super cool idea. The model is really, really big.

Thanks for the comments on the shadows and metals everybody. Very useful comments!
