Man-At-Arms

Another familiar Reaper mini. I didn't quite follow the normal color scheme, but stayed close. I had a terrible time with the face and hands, mostly because I primed this guy black (terrible idea I know). But overall it was a good learning experience, and only my second mini. Hopefully, the few things I learned this time around will come in handy on my next attempt. Any comments on how to better the mini are greatly appreciated. As with my first, Image ID 100360, I will refinish this guy as my techniques progress. Thanks.

Yes, you're right, priming black for this colour scheme wasn't the best idea. But your paint job is very crisp and clean, and is an excellent base for further shading and highlighting. A thin black wash on the metals, followed by some highlighting with a purer silver would make the metals far more interesting - drybrush a tiny bit of silver on the chainmail. For the cloth, I'd suggest starting with layering. Basically paint with a lighter colour, but leaving the recesses, continuing with an even lighter colour just to bring out the folds of the cloth. So, having said it's such a great start, why the low score? Well, it's incomplete. ;) Objectively; no shading, no highlighting, and no basing worth mention drags it right down.

Very good for the second mini. The paint job looks pretty neat and clean. He's a good tabletop quality ready for a game! The next step maybe is to look into inks, washes, and drybrushing to bring out the details. With some simple techniques, you can get great results! Keep up the good work!
