Celeborn, Lord of Lorien - 1st Place LotR Category at GD Italy '05

This was really fun to paint, lots of clothing and a finely sculpted face. The early sculpts of the LotR range are really done with love, imho. I painted him when I grew tired of my other entries that took me many many hours to sculpt and paint so I took something straight forward that I could just paint right away. All together this took me about 12 hours wich is basically nothing compared to my other entries...and although i think it is one of my best minis, considered the base, lighting and face (I never felt confortable while painting faces). I pictured him standing at the riverside during the departure of the fellowship, since obviously Galadriel that comes with the blister is from that scene... I took a picture from the movie as a reference for the colors and tried to stay as near as possible color wise. Most of the Colors have Ultramarine Blue as a base, I especially liked the effects you get when highlighting the blue with beige (bleached bone) and last highlights with white, the mantle has a bit of olive green mixed in for a darker appearance. I have to admit that when I was finished the base and the painting I thought he looked a bit boring so I browsed through Google pictures and stumbled over jeremie's version of this mini and I painted my "freehand" on the same area, mea culpa...please dont hurt me ;) Thanks for reading all this if you did! Once again thanks to all the Italians I'Ve met and those that helped me to go down to Milano (thanks Paolo!) and even more so a big THANKS to everyone that tried to get me back up save when the Trains were on strike: Julia, Tanya, Amir, Mahon...hope I am not missing anyone! I am just glad I didnt freeze to death between Verona and Innsbruck ;)

It is enthralling. I should like to praise his hair, especially from the back. The lighting is so well captured - it truly looks like hair, and that is rare. Capital!
