Warmachine Magic user

Painted on commission. It was the first mini I painted for his army and he gave me free reign on how it was done other than he specified the light blue. So far I've done 2 other magic users and a couple of mechs to match. The picture doesn't really do it justice, but photagraphy isn't one of my strong points so please take that into account. When I can get pics of the rest in these colors I'll put them up.

Let me start by saying that I'm a huge fan of alternate color schemes in Warmachine. Let me caviat that by saying that I don't know that I really like Menites wearing Cygnar uniforms. I'd get so confused on the gaming table against a Cygnar force, heh, heh! I will go on to say that I am absolutely loving the highlights on this model. The sections of armor are shaded and highlighted magnificently! It really makes that armor pop out at me! The underside of her cloak, while easilly overlooked, is looking like it was denied some attention and much-needed TLC (maybe Feora just didn't let you get up under her skirt, I don't know). The insignia on the front of the tunic is an extremely small and difficult thing to paint, this mini makes that much very evident. Yellow wouldn't have been my choice for the sigil of Menoth, I would've went with the same gold as the border (like the rest of the emblem), and it looks like some blue got up onto the sides of the yellow Menoth sigil, that gold metallic would've covered it up nicely. Also, Feora wears that pesky chainmail stuff underneath her tunic. I've only found 2 ways to pull off chainmail nicely, a.) basecoat in black and drybrush over the links with metal, trying carefully to leave the recesses black, or b.) use a watered down black wash. Ink washes are very tricky, especially black, it will make all metals looks dark and icky, so water is your friend there, water it down and get it into those recesses. The last thing I would've adjusted, again, a very tricky spot to do well, but her hands and face. The face is shaded by the helmet, so that's gotta be hard to paint, but the face appears a whole lot darker than the skin tone of her hands. Maybe it's the photo, but I would either do the face in a lighter skin tone, or darken the fingers on her hands to match. I look forward to seeing more of your work!
