My first red

This is the first time i have finished a red mini, as it always came out blotchy and dull and got repainted, please leave comments on weather i should paint a red army or not!!! I think he looks good ... Hence i am too scared to do any highlights, i think orange highlights look a bit dodgy, and think white might go overkill, Please advise ........... Thanks for looking .......... Johnny.

This has a nice crisp graphic sort of look, I really like it. The only reason for the lower rating is that it looks unfinished, between the lack of highlights and the base. My advice is to maybe start with a darker red, then paint with the one you've got, leaving the shadow areas dark. Then you can go up to a bit orange, and even add a tiny bit of white, but not too much so it doesn't go pink on you. Then to make it look really red again, just give it a couple of coats of very thinned down red ink, so it won't look orange in the end but you still have your full range of values. I think you should paint your army red. This would already look great on a table top, and with a little practice it could be excellent!

Whatever you use to highlight you go over it with a red ink wash and it will look good. It would be worth doing it on this mini

First off, noy sure if it's the pic or the mini, but the red looks quite thick. Try thining it a little. Also, I find when painting red it helps to start with a darker shade and then work up to this brightness so that you don't have to use orange or white for highlighting.
