Springtime Samurai (Reiko Shinmen)

This is one of 4 WarCrow samurai that I've done recently. They are pretty good sculpts overall, though their faces aren't quite as well sculpted as I'd like. Good figs otherwise though. Her kimono was an excercise in pushing my freehand skills, especially in planning and composition of a complicated design. I'm pretty happy with the way she turned out, and it has made me quite happy to look at her sitting on my desk these past weeks as rainy gray days turn into bright warm ones, and the flowers and trees in my neighborhood bloom to match her clothes. I tried to do the pattern on her scarf in a manner which suggested embroidery in a slightly different color than the main fabric, by using very thin paint for the details, and a lot of washes over it afterward. Comments are always welcome.

Excellent job! The kimono is awsome, what is lacking is the NMM, hair and skin, not bad, just not on the same level. I just amazed at the quality of the freehand the flower detail is just awsome, the only comment is the flowers seem just too big. The size of a flower is about the size of her head, I just can't picture or recall anybody wearing such large patterns on clothing.

The freehand is fantastic, not just the execution, but the fact that your planning and composition is very evident and works great - this looks like a kimono pattern, not random flowers for the sake of it. The NMM is nice and smooth, just lacks a little ooph in the reflections. The hair is a little weak to me, and would benefit from highlighting shape areas more than just strands, I think. Lovely piece overall, though.
