Kadlin, Grymn Light Infantrist
Couple of things to mention about this miniature: When I first picked up this miniature I knew I had to paint her to emphasise her posture and expression. This is, to me, really one of the more evocative figures Kev White has produced in a long time. She´s not a fancy zombiehunter or axe-wielding bare-breasted amazon, but she still conveys something very feminine. The composition and linework on this 23mm tall sculpture add togehter to create something that is simply larger than its parts can contain. I will not hesitate to call this miniature a masterwork (and please notice that I am still refering to Kevins work, not blatantly praising my own work.) ------------------------------------------------- As for the composition of the miniature, I wanted to emphasise the contrast of her femininity and rounded composition, with the blunt chaos of warfare. What is not particularly evident from the pictures here is that the miniature, viewed from above, points outwards of the base in three directions (the ruined door, the stone, and Kadlin) thus forcing the perspective that she is moving away from/ through the ruins. The line going from the archway (upwards) through her gunbarrel (downwards) also indicates a direction pointing away from the center of the base, and leading to suggest that there is more going on beyond the limits of the visible frame. In my intended reading of the composition, she conveys a sense both of reluctance and determination. ------------------------------------------------- My choice of style and colour for the paintwork itself is intended to further strenghten the contrast between Kadlin and her surroundings, by painting the ruins to look rough and worn, with a cold feel to them. Kadlin, by comparison, is painted very smoothly and with a predominance of warm tones (though I actually shaded most of the colours on her with deep greens). And thats about all I have to say about Kadlin. Feel free to comment :)
