Thanks alot for the comments. I have taken up the mission of building my army of 6 carnifexes and 2 hive tyrants and will try to use the suggestions you gave me when painting my next beast :P

It's a pretty nice fex, but i do have a few suggestions.
I think the base is just too much the same shade as the fex himself and raising one of the tones to be a bit brighter might make the model stand out more.
I'd do this by cleaning up the grey drybrushing by retouching with adeptus battlegrey, and then painting some highlights with a mix of adeptus and codex grey.
I'd then increase contrast on the barbed strangler by giving a few washes of thinned down black ink (particularly on the tube beneath the barrel -not the ammo feed)and overall reducing the quantity of green on the gun, but then making the green that is left brighter by highlighting with scorpion green.
