Dwarf Lord

Painted in about 3 hours 08/06 over many nights (I rarely get 30min to sit down to myself these days). There are a couple of very light green ink glazes (going for some magical look) over the armor but they didn't really photograph well. I've certainlly learned a few things since discovering CMoN: 1) I'm not as good as I had hoped. 2) I'm either layering on my primer or my paint to thickly. 3) Photographing miniatures so they look good is tough. 4) Well there are a lot more but I'm not writing a book here. After discovering how hard the photography is I've pretty much started rating others minis higher by a point or so than I previously would have. So many flaws or blemishes that arn't visible to the naked eye stand out big and bright under close-up photography. Comments welcome, my skin is very thick and I don't offend easily. PS: No the text on the base isn't painted on. It was added in Photoshop. :)

That's a nice, solid piece of painting :) The paint is a little thick, but you are brave to show some very close up pictures of a very small miniature! The metals are nice (particularly the golds), and the whole paintjob is clean. One tip to add to those already given is that a little more contrast to make the details "pop" would help: For instance you could add one more highlight to his hair to give it more definition. Thin your paint a little, and you'll be great in no time! :) ~Bill

Thanks for the comments everyone, keep them coming. I do use spray primer by GW but I think I'm putting it on a bit thick (pausing to long over the mini and getting build-up) and I'm gonna change spray techniques.

It's got character, which is half the battle. Are you using spray primer? That would help reduce the thickness of the paint.
