Try fleshwashing the hands and face using ink and then highlighting / drybryshing the skin - That will work wonders on this mini. Same teknique can be applied on the clothes and weapon (using diffrent colored inks). Finally you could try some details like eyes to give the miniature a nice finish.
I suggest that you paint the base rather than leaving the sand unpainted.
