Those color choices really pop at you, don't they.
I disagree about the gloss. I hit all my SMs with a high gloss. They like to keep their armor waxed and polished.
I'd say work on highlighting and shading the metallics. Just a thin black or brown ink wash on the trip of the shoulder pads would make them look more warm.
Great blending on the blue.
An Great start! I would avoid gloss or simi gloss varnish or at least hit it with Testors dullcoat afterwords to knock the sheen off. I would also use a lighter color for for the base like a rust or clay color (it focuses attention to the mini itself) Another neat trick is to use Delta Ceramicote Charcole gray instead of black(black is just too harsh in my oppinion) You can look at some of my minis if you would like to see how it looks before trying it yourself (dave4tin) P.S. I wish my minis looked that good when I started.
