3 is very harsh. Especially for someone with none of his own mini's up. This is a good table top mini and nothing to be ashamed of. However i agree that more basing is needed, even just a layer of sand. One point I'd like to make is that I feel you have too many different and very striking colours in the mini. A vibrant red, green, steel, bright blue, and black. My suggestion would be to eliminate 2 of these keep the colour composition simpler. different shades of the same colour work well i think. Like if the boots were a deep red and the goggles were also blue. i would asle paint the tube coming from the gun black as well to match the gun.
3's bloody harsh! I like the red-metal combination: very striking. But (a) try to put a neutral layer behind the mini (a sheet of paper is favourite) and (b) don't forget to do something with the base. Unbased minis tend to automatically marked down (as I have done hear - I think this is a 6 for the painting but isn't ready for the table, hence 5).
