Black orc with drum (Warhammer)

This is the first mini I ever painted and I am quite happy with it, even though I made a lot of mistakes. The base is build out of putty, imprinted with a Cheerio to give it some structure and hardened in the oven. My first big mistake was the primer: I held the spray-can too far away, resulting in lots of little grainy bits on the mini; I tried to work them into the rusty armor and it turned out ok. For the paint-job I used red, blue, yellow, white and black Citadel acrylics and mixed them as needed. I tried my best at some blending and dry-brushing, and I think the rusty armor looks great in real life. I do not like the horns much, but I had only so much time over thanksgiving. Finally I used a matte spray varnish, which unfortunately turned white in all the crevices! Hence, I ended up painting all the dark spots again - grrr. Taking the picture was a challenge too: I like the dark one best, done one my desk with only two lamps and a tiny, old digi-cam (of course the colors are more accurate in the sunny photos). In the end, it was a lot of fun and my wifes nephew had a blast over the holiday (he was painting his warhammer 40000 figures, so I got myself an orc and joined him). T.J.B.
