The snow looks more like grey rock. I suggest using the baking soda method (in one of the articles about unusual basing materials this was mentioned, and I find it's the most realistic looking). It's just baking soda and white glue mixed. Check the article section for it. It has some great ideas for foliage from herbs as well.
